HELMUT - Xi ix Xi ALBUM REVIEW

HELMUT is a 5 Piece Stoner/Hardcore/Sludge Metal Band from Switzerland.

The members are

Simon - The Rock
Guillaume - Picked sub-distortion
Sam - Jaeger
Flo - Meister
Peter - HELMUT

HELMUT are a superb Sludge/Stoner/Hardcore Metal band taking influence from bands such as Mastodon, Baroness, Down and Crowbar to name but a few.

The guys have just released their excellent 2nd album – Xi ix Xi – A 10 song thrill ride into the realm of Sludge/Hardcore/Stoner Metal music which blends it’s different genres superbly to thrilling effect.

If you’re a fan of the above bands then this album is for you. As the guys do have Baroness/Mastodon Riffs and Vocals one minute and the next they throw in something different like a Flamenco Guitar on the superb first song “A Decade of Lost Freedom”.

This amazing instrumental song starts off this album superbly. Imagine if Mastodon and Baroness got together for an extended jamming session with added vocals then this album would be the result.

But it would be wrong for me to say that the guys are mere copycats. As they are not. Helmut do throw in sublime Hardcore Based Death Metal growls along the way with the added Thrash Metal riff to stand apart from their rivals.

I have listened to this album about 5 times now and each time I find something else to enjoy that I missed first time round. They have a great album full of sing-along tunes with superb Stoner Metal riffs that last long in the memory.

The vocals are outstanding on the album. Crossing through many different genres with added ease but never alienating the listener when doing so.

The guys are superb musicians and they prove this time and time again on each of the songs. They know how to play a top-notch Stoner/Sludge Metal riff.

Awesome stuff and credit to all involved. This is an album they deserve as much praise they can get.

An album to check out time and time again. Highly Recommended. You can buy this superb release here.
