Vocals on the ‘Chemical Masterpiece's’ EP
in general sound like a scathing cat in torture that works just fine for this
kind of fist fuck. ‘Wrecking Machine’ is
dirty and belongs in the trash but maybe that's why I like it. Overall given a
few more years I feel like they will eventually get a better sound recording
wise and better songs but this is definitely a good start for a band that comes
from a land of Black Sabbath, Iron Monkey, Electric Wizard and the like.

The Review
Obligatory hails to the U.K. sludge sound which is still
intact in this culture of over glossed hardcore. Yamakunt,
bring the sludge out in the best possible way. The riffs plow through all kinds
of dirge that sound rough but powerful. Despite being a pretty low fi recording, the bass is up in the mix as is the vocals and the
drums are definitely in tempo but sound a bit weak . So here goes my first review for The Sludgelord...
‘Drugsludge’ doesn't necessarily bring anything brand new to the
table as the intro is very a-typical for sludge/doom however, once the singer
comes in with “KUNT!” I'm all ears. Vocals on the ‘Chemical Masterpiece's’ EP in general sound like a scathing cat in
torture that works just fine for this kind of fist fuck. They probably used a
low budget microphone but at least the singer has issues and that's what makes
this band really stand out amongst a lot of other sludge bands. ‘Wrecking Machine’ is dirty and belongs in
the trash but maybe that's why I like it. A weird Clutch
thing comes out with the vocals if you're down with that, it has that rhythm
that bounces along with the guitar riff. The bass break is a good change of
pace and the vocals explode quickly afterward with searing pain.
My favorite track by far is ‘28 Pills Later’. Even if it isn't slow and shattering this one
still brings a fuck all vibe and reminds me a little of Fistula's
faster elements. They lead into a doomier slower tempo near the end and this
track is golden. Makes me want more of this.
‘Ianmyra’ is pretty fucking torturous and slow, ushering in
the end of this 4 song ‘Chemical
Masterpiece’. Given a few more years I feel like they will eventually get a
better sound recording wise and better songs but this is definitely a good
start for a band that comes from a land of Black Sabbath, Iron Monkey,
Electric Wizard and the like. On top of it all, they look like
scumbags. Looking forward to hearing more from these hood rats.
