The members are:

Adam Reed--Guitars, Ambience
Casey Stickney--Drums
Chase Hornsby--Guitars
Nathan Reed--Bass
Todd Harris--Vocals, Guitar

Battle Path have been on this blog before when I reviewed this excellent album. Well the guys have posted this on their Facebook Page.

"Ok guys. Just wanted to give a bit of an update about Empiric. First off, I want to say thank you to everyone who has bought Empiric on the bandcamp page. We can't thank you enough. We have decided at this time to change the price to Name Your Price instead, due to the fact that the record has leaked all over the internet to a score of illegal download sites. We'd much rather you just get it from us than another place. So, with that said, have at it! Download away and enjoy. Also, if anyone happens to review the record, please let us know. Thanks again!"

So here I am spreading the word on one of my fave Sludge/Black Metal Bands. So headover to BandCamp Page now and download the album from there. If you want to help the guys out buy some merch from them and let them know what you think of the album via their Facebook Page.

The guys will surely appreciate it. Empiric will be released on Vinyl very soon.

Expect an interview with these guys on Sludgelord in the next few weeks or so.

The members are:

Waleed Ahmed - Vocals/Guitars/Bass/Producer
Sheraz Ahmed - Guitars/Drums
Umair Ahmed - Guitars
Waqar Haider - Live backing vocals
Sam Morbid - Live Drummer
Rauhan Lasharie - Flute/Synth/Violin

Dionysus are a superb Death/Doom Metal band blending Neofolk/Black metal/Post rock into their highly original style of music.

It's been a while since we have posted a great Death/Doom Metal Band on the blog so thanks to Dionysus for contacting me about their great band and excellent new EP - A Hymn To The Dying.

A 5 song and 28 minute collection of hard hitting riffs that show what a truly talented band Dionysus actually are.

If your into Iron Maiden, Opeth and Wolves In The Throne Room then your going to dig this. As Dionysus sound like a crazy warped hybrid of these great bands.

The vocals and riffs are bleak from the word go in the best Doom/Death Metal possible way. Throw in some cool Neo-Folk/Black Metal and Post Rock riffs. These guys can rock out with the best of them.

The EP's standout track is the epic 9:27 minute song - Valor Of The Phoenix which shows what this band does so brilliantly well.

The EP is not the best produced but it shouldn't distract you to show what a hugely talented band these guys actually are.

Dionysus are giving this excellent EP for free right now from MediaFire. So start downloading now and check out this amazing band right now.

Brilliant and Highly Recommended!!!

ISLANDS

ISLANDS cover art

Islands are an Ambient Post-Metal Band from Sydney, Australia.

The members are:

Brock- Guitars
Chris- Drums
John- Guitars/Vocals
Lee- Bass/Vocals
Seb- Guitars

Islands are a top-notch Ambient Post-Metal Band from Australia. Home already to great bands such as Dumbsaint, AVER and current Sludgelord faves - Adrift For Days.

Well Islands are another great band to add to the list with their brilliant style of Post-Metal blending Ambient Riffs and Post-Rock to loud and heavy perfection.

The guys are influenced by the following great bands - Cult of Luna, Converge, Explosions In The Sky, Alcest, ISIS, This Will Destroy You, Russian Circles.

You can hear these band's influence on their own style of great music. But Islands really do stand on their own merit.

They have just released their excellent new S/T EP - A 5 song and almost 49 minute collection of brilliant Ambient Post-Metal riffs.

This is an album that Aaron and myself loved from the very first listen. The album really does draw you in from the start and never lets go until the dying seconds.

The album is an absolute monster of epic Post-Metal riffs. 3 of the songs runs past the 10 minute mark. One of those 3 songs runs for about 13 minutes or so.

If you want epic Post-Metal songs with a great sonic feel to them then this is the album for you. Just play this album as loud as you can and lose yourself in the realm that Islands have perfectly created.

Another outstanding Post-Metal album for you all to check out now. All of the songs are brilliantly put together that will have you begging for more.

If this is the sound of things to come from this great band then they will definitely be a major force to be reckoned with in the next few years or so.

You need this album in your collection now so head over to BandCamp right now and download it on Pay Anything You Want Type Deal.

Highly Recommended by ourselves at Sludgelord. Amazing. End Of!!!

NIGHTSTALKER - Dead Rock Commandos Review

Nightstalker are a Stoner Metal Band from Greece

The members are:

Argy (Vocals)
Andreas Lagios (Bass)
Tolis Motsios (Guitars)
Dinos Roulos (Drums)

Nightstalker are a legendary Stoner Metal Band from Greece with over 20 years experience to their credit. They have influenced a whole range of bands in their homeland with their steady mix of Doom, Thrash and later Stoner Metal vibes.

In 22 years they have released a whole range of great releases such as Use, Just A Burn and my personal fave Superfreak.

Well the guys are back with their 4th album - Dead Rock Commandos. A 10 song and 40 minute blast of top-notch Stoner Metal riffs.

If your into Sabbath, Motorhead and Monster Magnet then you will find much to admire here. As these guys are fucking masters of the riff.

These collection of songs are just pure balls-to-the-wall Stoner Metal riffs. There are no long drawn out epic guitar riffs here. Nightstalker know what needs to be done. Just straight in your face head-banging, chest-thumping, air-guitar stoner metal riffs that we are all massive fans of.

Argy's vocals do have a world weary Dave Wyndorf feel to them. And that is no bad thing as Argy adds a truly grizzled feel to his vocals. This is a guy who has probably seen it all and you would not want to mess with him. Not on this form anyway. His vocal performance is nothing short of perfection.

Standout tracks include - Go Get Some, Dead Rock Commandos, Children Of The Sun and The Underdog.

People might say it's not the most original of tunes. But Fuck Em. These guys are one of the true pioneers of the Stoner Metal Scene with 22 years experience backing them up. If these guys decided to release a collection of nursery rhymes it would still sound amazing compared to some of today's newer Stoner Metal bands.

The guys are brilliant musicians and this is backed up with the huge abundance of amazing Stoner Metal riffs on this excellent album.

If you felt let down by Monster Magnet's last album well this is the album they should of made. As this album just fucking rocks from the word go. All I can say.

This is the album that should hopefully propel this band onto a bigger stage as they truly deserve it. 22 years and still going strong. They might have released their most definitive work to date.

Dead Rock Commandos is an absolute joy to listen to. I have been listening to this excellent album non-stop for the past few weeks or so. I have to thank the guys at amazing Small Stone Records Label for letting ourselves reviewing this great album.

My Final Word is that Nightstalker have released a superb album that should appeal to both old and new fans alike. If your a new fan to the world of Nightstalker then this is a great place to start.

Highly Recommended.

Dead Rock Commandos is available to buy on iTunes now. And will be available to buy on CD/Vinyl from August 28th 2012.

ORCUS CHYLDE - S/T Album Review

Orcus Chylde are a Doom/Hard Rock/Proto-Metal Band from Germany

The members are

Vocals: Tobias Ritter
Guitars: Nico Rausch
Guitars: Lukas Kunkel
Bass: Dejan Zivkovic
Organs:Felix Gellrich
Drums:David Neuendorf

Orcus Chylde are a band with a sound that is very hard to categorize. Parts Doom, Pysch, Prog Rock, Proto-Metal mixed in with a delicious 70's Occult Rock feel.

They are part of the new breed of Doom Rock/Metal that is starting to make waves through the rock world. They have just released their astonishing debut S/T Debut album. An 8 song and 48 minute blast of out of this world psychedelic riffs.

The album is expertly produced and played by everyone involved.

If your a fan of 70's Hard Rock Bands such as Led Zep, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple then your going to love this. It takes the music from that era but adds some cool modern Doom Rock riffs to truly stand out from the crowd.

This album feels like a greatest hits collection of this great band rather than their debut album. All of the songs  are great especially - The Day The Seventh Angel Came, Valley Of Thorns, Over The Frozen Rivers.

All showing what this great band does so well. Paying homage to great bands past and present but putting their own spin on things. Such as the sublime vocals of vocalist Tobias and the Organs. The organs add a dream like quality to their music. Some times unsettling but altogether original and fucking superb.

This album is receiving a whole lot of praise all over the place. And rightly it should. As it's Orcus Chylde's callling card to the world of Hard Rock/Doom Metal that a truly important band has arrived on the scene. And that they are here to stay for a long, long time.

Long May It Continue. An outstanding album by a great band from our German Brothers.

If you want a truly operatic theatrical doom rock/metal album full of original ideas and riffs then I recommend you check this excellent band now. You would be mad to miss out this excellent album.

Highly Recommended.

The Review:

To say I was looking forward to this release would be an understatement to say the very least.  Slabdragger produced one of the finest debut albums of recent years in 2011 and following on from that, alongside much touted band, Meadows, Head of Crom have brought two bands together and by doing so they have produced one of the finest releases of the year so far.  So, what is all the fuss about?  In my pursuit to be the next greatest guitar player in my late teens, early twenties it was my wish to have the sickest and ugliest guitar sound on Tyneside (that's Whitley Bay, North East England) to be precise.  I was checking out the local guitar shops and asked the dude serving, what was the best distortion pedal (must have been late 90's).  He then produces a DOD death metal pedal, to me it sounded absolutely amazing, so I promptly bought it, £90 later I get it home.  Instead of the usual level, low, mid, high tones on the pedal, instead this pedal had R.I.P, GUTS, PAIN and SCREAM.

Well you can imagine my delight at this, and I could basically sum up the Slabdragger side of the split, by saying that it is sound incorporates all of those things, gut spewing filthy painful screams of Doom. Slabdragger have produced a monumental slab of doom encrusted heaviness which just reeks of putrefaction and with that in mind, I felt that I was listening to the sound of ‘Heartwork‘ era Carcass in terms of guitar tone.  Hell it could be Bill Steer and Michael Amott playing on this record, such is the ferocity of these two new offerings by Slabdragger.

Alcehmistress is a ten minute tyrannous bile inducing slice of oppressive doom, which is spectacularly abrasive and brutal.  Appearing to be influenced by early and late Cathedral, with that Ethereal Mirror roughness to the guitar sound, coupled with the latter day psychedelia of the vocals. They almost struggle to be heard over the seismic and colossal riffs that are on display, coming across like Warhorse from their legendary 2001 record As Heaven Turns to Ash. Slabdragger display some of the grooviest, most memorable doom riffs ever to crawl forth from the furthest reaches of the underworld.  Spliced with intervals of wah at times, Slabdragger have taken their original sound and added more crunch to the guitar, more fuzz to the bass and  with Nicolas Satori on drums, he vigorously pounds his kit into dust.  Alchemistress is one truly monumental track and left me awestruck in wonderment at how outrageously awesome this track truly is and this is only the first of their double header.

Burden is set up with the shrill of feedback from the previous track and having picked your jaw from the floor, having been bitch slapped by the Alcehmistress.  Slabdragger turn the thumbscrew once more, with another stupefying dish of doom. The guitars are equally colossal, yet somehow more sludgey than the previous track, exemplified by the slow and labouring Pachyderm pace of the track, it just sounds huge, with the buzzing din of the guitars and bass resonating like the sound of Leatherface's chainsaw, searching for its prey.  There is a double whammy vocal approach to Burden with Sam and Yusuf spitting fury from the power of the written word.  They appear vehement and pissed off on the track and yet there is also subtlety present too, mixing up the anger with emotion, with a more clean approach to the vocals too.  Again Satori is equal to the fury of the guitars, bass and vocals, his performance reminding me of Greg Rogers on the first Goatsnake record.

The surprise of the track is the last third when Slabdragger take on a turn of pace, harking back to a more hardcore sound, including a great solo break and yet it continues to have that crushing doom sound.  Slabdragger left me feeling battered, beaten and broken boned.  Overall their peers need to take note, because on this performance Slabdragger are a force to be reckoned with. What's more if these songs sound half as good on stage as they do on this record, then I wish their peers good luck, because based on this performance Slabdragger are going to take some beating.

Meadows who incidentally were earmarked as one's to watch in our recent South East Sludge feature are a band that seems to be on the cusp of great things.  The four tracks on the flip side of this wax are an entirely different proposition, and their barrage of counterpunches to Slabdragger are four doses of filthy bilious crust.   Superscammel is raw and a rather unpleasant superfast ass kicking, with awesomely powerful and bombastic riffs, reminding me of the anger and fury of early and much missed Corby sludgers Raging Speedhorn.  Meadows' agenda is one of destruction and carnage, unadulterated and unrelenting riff abuse, coupled with the raw and aggressive battery of the drums.  Around the 1:00 mark, Meadows bring the sludge with slow crippling riffs, simple yet, brilliantly caustic, not to mention the demented vocal performance.   Baling Twine is equally brutal with a fast paced flurry of scything riffs and abuse from what appears to be the whole band, spitting venom and fury. 2mins of searing, contemptuous hate

At 6:38, Howell of the Wind is the longest track Meadows offer on this split and this is where they explore the full range of their sound and influences, incorporating equal doses of crust, sludge, stoner and doom throughout.  Indeed, this track specifically highlights what an exciting proposition this band are and can be over the course of the next few years.  Meadows have depth to their sound and dare I say, maturity, these guys are more than a one trick pony and Howell of the Wind is exemplary.  The old saying, save the best till last, couldn't be more appropriate for the final track Loaded to the Gunwales, which  is a just a monstrosity of heaviness, think Mastodon at their heaviest and cross that with Yob and you're getting close.  Man, I am writing this off the cuff and I am at pains to describe how amazing this track really is, too say that it is some of the heaviest shit you'll hear all year is an understatement.  The track is like a slow wrecking ball of destruction that just about smashes you into dust.  Absolutely brilliant.

Walk over broken glass, hot coals, do whatever you need to do (legal of course).  Make sure you buy this record.  You won't be disappointed.  Don't delay because this bad boy it is limited to 300 copies only!!  This is truly an essential purchase.
