Hi all. Here is a great Experimental Noise Rock Artist to check out. PEOPLING.

PEOPLING is a one man Noise/Experimental/Rock all round virtuoso that you should all check out. OK this isn't Sludge/Doom Metal music but its a very noisy and loud affair. It's insane at times but it's a great ride to listen to. 17 mins in length. But a great fun ride into the Experimental Side of Noise Rock. Brilliantly insanely done.

So give this guy a chance and see what you think. I can't recommend him highly enough. Cool guy as well. Check out all of the links here.

Some great Press for this talented individual.

The EP's also on iTunes:

Another great artist to keep an eye out for. Keep up the great work Ronnie (aka Peopling.)

Union Of Sleep are a 5 Piece Sludge/Psych/Doom Metal Band from Germany.

The band have been together since 2008 and have released two albums and one demo so far. I am reviewing their 2010 superb offering – “Death In The Place Of Rebirth”. An 8 song 30 minute blast of an album.

This is the guys 2nd album and they have acclaim all over the web for their hard-hitting Sludge Riff-Driven slabs of Sludge/Doom Metal.

Full of angry based guitar riffs from start to finish. Heavy pounding drumming and driven along by the screamed angry vocals of vocalist - . This album deserves your full attention.

This monster does not let you go until the dying seconds of the last note has been played. Since this album is only on for 30 mins, the guys only have a short amount of time to show you what they can do. And they do it brilliantly well.

Tracks like “Ride The Monkey”, “Turn Your Cross” and “Hammer-Coffin-Nails” show that this band means business. To bring the meanest, loudest and most Brutal Sludge/Doom Metal music you will hear in a long while.

The album really does have a brutal down-tempo feel that really adds to the album’s atmosphere.

These guys play thick and fast riffs that will shake your soul to the core. This album always impresses me every time I listen to it. Full of great Sludge/Doom Psych Based Riffs we need from a top-notch Sludge/Doom Metal band.

Production is excellent. Everything in played loud and fast. You can hear each note played from back to front. Especially with the top-notch drumming on “Never Die”. A great song to close such an outstanding album.

Definitely a band with a bright future and one to keep an eye out for.

CARAVAN OF WHORES are a 3 Piece Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal band from BANBURY/BICESTER OXFORDSHIRE - UK

The members are:

Pete = Bass + Vocals
John = Guitar + Vocals
Jamie = Drums + moderate nudity

CARAVAN OF WHORES are about to release their new 3-Song EP – “Presents A Cosmic Interlude” in Sept 2011.

CARAVAN OF WHORES play Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal Music. Taking influence from classic bands past and present. Too many to mention. But CARAVAN OF WHORES bring their own style of Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal music to the party.

Their new EP is quite simply outstanding. Full of Stoner/Sludge guitar riffs that also include some top-notch 70’s Hard Rock vibes to proceedings.

“Now” is a 4-minute song to set up proceedings. A more traditional Stoner/Sludge Metal song that it gets straight down to business into entertaining the listener with its top-notch guitar riffs. Hard to believe these guys are not from NOLA but the UK. A great Stoner/Doom Rocking start to this superb EP.

Next up is “Crowfeet Eyes” an 8:44 minute epic Sludge/Stoner Track, which takes time to build up into a superb majestic track. Vocals takes influence from Wino and Roger Daltery on this track. This has a cool 70’s vibe to it with the added bonus of modern based Stoner/Sludge Metal guitar riffs driving this outstanding track along. Some brilliant drumming and guitar work show throughout this track. They know when to play a fast-paced riff so the songs really does go into overdrive round the 5-minute mark. A superb track to highlight this band’s talent for writing and constructing a classic Stoner/Sludge/Doom Metal track.

Last but not least is the 11:18 monster of a track – 9 Bar. This is CARAVAN OF WHORES masterpiece on this outstanding EP. Full of more top-notch Sludge/Stoner Metal guitar riffs you can shake a bong pipe at. With more of the same impressive singing from both vocalists. Ever wondered how Roger Daltery would sound like fronting a top-notch Stoner Rock Band. Well now is your chance as this is about close as you get.

A brilliant finish to a top-notch EP. Production is handled superbly. Vocals and instrument playing are superb throughout. I have no complaints at all. Even the EP’s cover is impressive.

This EP shows that CARAVAN OF WHORES are a band with a bright future indeed in the realm of UK Stoner/Sludge Metal. Thanks to this blogspot, I have discovered that the UK has a great bunch of Stoner/Doom/Sludge Metal Band flying the flag. With bands such as HURON, SUBSILENCE, THORUN (OK their Welsh but still one of my faves), UNDERSMILE and now CARAVAN OF WHORES.

How talented do I think these guys are. Well I think these guys can give Wino’s latest project Premonition 13 a run for their money. They both play the same type of Sludge/Stoner Metal music. But based on this EP – CARAVAN OF WHORES have released the better material. Premonition 13 new album is great but this EP edges it by miles for me. Better singing and better riffs. All in my humble opinion of course.

I cannot wait to see what these guys do next on their full-length record. A band to truly look out for.

The guys are hugely talented musicians with some fast and furious Sludge/Post Metal riffs carrying this superb album through from start to finish.

It is not full instrumental as this has small elements of bleak Sludge/Hardcore based vocals.

Production is superb. You can hear every mean, loud and angry note perfectly played.

Check out the awesome two-part Sludge/Post-Metal masterpiece – The Howl Of Garou (Parts 1 & 2). Full of great riffs and great vocals as well.

My fave track is the 7-minute epic song “Thoth”. A track that starts slow with a cool intricate guitar riff that builds upto something special. Definitely, the best track on the album and one that showcases how talented this band really is.

This album might take you a few listens to truly hear everything on offer. As some of the tracks are multi-layered that you might miss first time around. But I urge to you to give this a few listens to fully understand the full effect.

All in all an outstanding album by a truly talented band that stands out in the Sludge/Post-Metal Scene.

The members are:

Tim Wearing

Matt Killoran

WEIRDING are a superb Stoner/Sludge/Doom/Psych Metal band who take influence from Mastodon, Baroness, High On Fire, Sleep and many others of these great genres.

But WEIRDING add their own hardcore punk vibe onto proceedings and it plainly out-rocks from start to finish.

The guys have just released their superb debut album "Each Birth Is A New Disaster" - A 37 minute 8 song blast into the angry vortex of this hugely talented band.

The songs of full of loud, heavy Stoner/Sludge/Psych Metal riffs to get your heart pumping but with an aggressive hardcore punk feel to it.

The album just files from start to finish. All of the tracks are superb. These riffs are loud, mean and angry as hell. The drums feel like they are being hit by magnetic forces of nature as they are that loud.

Throw in some mean angry vocals and you have one album that deserves maximum attention.

Standout tracks include "Bastard", "As A Crown", "Creeping In On The Heel/ Love Theme From Weirding" and my fave track "For What It Kills To Grow In".

Chapped Lips Monroe - gitter
Hotskins Mahoney - bass gitter
Tigris "The Tiger" Euphrates Jackson - drums

"Hailing from Swampwater, Georgia(actually Phoenix, Arizona)this group of jokesters known as The Dagg Nabbit Stubbs will firmly place a boot up your ass with their combination of countrified swamp rock and humor. With stick to your ribs riffs, tractor pull anthems and beer-induced brew ha has, America's trailer parks rejoice because you have found your new house band. Well their new EP "The Eagle's Greatest Hits" is absolute blast from start to finish. 5 tracks on for 26 mins or so. And has more laughs in it than a recent Adam Sandler movie.

OK it's Comedy Rock but what is undeniable is the band's talent for a cracking Stoner Rock Riff. And the lyrics had me in stitches esepcially on the classic song "Bitch Street".

These guys know exactly what they are doing and make no apologies for their brilliant off-beat and red-neck humour. This what makes me a fan of their music.

This EP tells the story of the end of the world through fast and furious Stoner/Sludge/Doom Metal riffs.

This is a superb EP from start to finish. Production is excellent. But you will need to strap yourselves in as this is one of the fastest and most compelling releases I have heard this year.

It seriously is that great. Production is excellent and the vocals are awesome. Really add's to the EP's bleak tone. Check it out for yourselves and you wont be sorry. A truly amazing EP from a great band to look out for.

JOHN WILKES BOOTH are an awesome Stoner Rock band from Long Isalnd.

The members are:

Kerry Merkle- Yipes
Christian Horstmann- Drums
Jason Beickert- Guitar
Harry- Bass

I had a shout out from Kerry from superb Stoner Rockers - JOHN WILKES BOOTH.

What Kerry send me should tell you all you need to know.

"John Wilkes Booth is back with a new track entitled "Hold Still It Said" their first new recorded track since 2009's "Trilateral Commission", a three-way split featuring the bands Twelve Eyes and Maegashira.

Their debut full-length release, Sic Semper Tyrannis (which included a previously recorded self-titled EP), sold around the world and received favorable reviews with the expectation for more. The Metal Minute stated: “If Merkle and company build on the strengths of their debut, they may soon give heavy music connoisseurs a new, fresher association with John Wilkes Booth.”

Ray Van Horn, Jr. called the band,”… a rapidly-developing band you're likely missing out on.”

Michael Gasper noted, “This is one band to hang with. They will not be forced into a box anytime soon. Get ready for 15 tracks that will assassinate your ears.”

If you’ve never heard of the band, listen to what Ripple Music says of their music: “This [is an] adrenalinized blast of what the boys affectionately call "dirt rock."

In truth, there's no arguing that tag, this is dirty, ballsy, scuzzy and sleazy, hard biting, punked-up rock and roll. What the boys don't tell you however, are the masses of nasty little critters living in their dirt. A dirty, nasty trip and one you'll thank your lucky stars you took.” Since the formation of the band in 2005, the band has consistently recorded and played live shows while continually escalating their fan base.

In May of 2008, Aural Fix, a Long Island magazine covering the local music scene, featured the band on the front cover. In 2007, John Wilkes Booth was chosen as a featured band on Fatcat Radio as well as selected as band of the week for Joe’s Podhole. In June of that year, they were voted by listeners as band of the month on local radio station, Radiox. Their debut “Sic Semper Tyrannis” appeared on several Top 10 Lists such as FatCat Radio in Detroit & Rockharder blog out of Sweden.

The band’s popularity has also featured the foursome playing shows along the east coast with such national acts as Lo-Pan, The Hidden Hand, La Otracina, Zoroaster, Puny Human, Solace, Wooly Mammoth, and Wrecketh. The NY Speed Coalition reviewed the Booth show at Bar 131 and stated, “The dirt rock assassins played an absolutely flawless set of bone shattering, ground shaking hard rock.”

In September 2009, JWB was asked to play the Stoner Hands of Doom 10th Annual Festival in Maryland.

In 2010 JWB went underground renting a warehouse in the hometown area and hosting "Sailor Boy Jams", private jam sessions with many of their musical friends. This brought Booth into a new discovery of musical possibilities jamming with as many as 5 drummers at a time. 2011 brings us to "Hold Still It Said" and who knows what the future will bring!!"

IRON WITCH are a 5 Piece Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal band from Liverpool, UK.

The members are:

Chris - Vocals
Dan - Guitar
Rick - Bass
Sam - Guitar
Will - Drums

IRON WITCH play top notch Stoner/Doom/Sludge Metal Music blended with some scary vocals courtesy of vocalist.

Taking influence from EYEHATEGOD, SLEEP and other top notch Stoner/Sludge Metal Bands.

The band have released two releases so far. Their debut EP and their new release –Single Malt.

A 5-song blast of loud, angry Sludge Metal Music, which has been released on the excellent record label Witch Hunter Records. Where you can buy this excellent EP from.

The EP can also be downloaded on BandCamp famous pay anything you want type deal.

Single Malt is a masterclass in Sludge Metal Music. Full of bleak Stoner/Sludge Metal riffs to get stuck into.

This record is an absolute blast from start to finish. For their first professional release this is simply outstanding. Production is top-notch. The instrument playing and vocals blend perfectly together to present an EP full of dirge ridden Stoner/Sludge riffs.

Riffs come thick and fast especially on opener “A .45 To Pay The Rent”. Really sets the overall tone for this excellent EP. You can really hear the pain in vocalist Chris voice that add’s to the song’s atmosphere.

Title Track – Single Malt is up next. And this gets down to business in no quick time at all. Full of heavy monolithic riffs that Sludge Rockers will lap up everywhere.

Booze Blue and Jailhouse are up next. Offering up more of the same meatiest and nastiest Stoner/Sludge Riffs UK Sludge Metal has to offer.

Last but by no means least is the 7 minute plus epic track – The Cruelty Of Mankind. Don’t expect the guys to change style now. These guys mean business and they have kept the best for last.

This song is simply the best song on the EP. – Loud, Mean and angry from the word go. Full of brutal Stoner/Sludge Metal riffs same as before. But the volume is now turned upto it’s highest level and then some.

Credit must go to vocalist who goes through all of the emotions on this top-notch song. I don’t think Chris vocals can take anymore of this. He is probably screaming “LADS – HURRY UP. AM DYING HERE. I NEED A PINT RIGHT NOW”. And then we have another 3.30 minutes to go. So hang in there. You can get yourself to hospital and see a Doctor for those stressed out vocals.

Joking aside this EP isn’t pretty. Then again it wasn’t meant to be. This EP is for seasoned Sludge Rockers like ourselves. Not the trendy new hipsters that are lurking about.

There are no flashy Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs. Just proper brutal down-tempo dirge filled Sludge Riffs that us Sludge Metallers need to listen to time and time again. And Iron Witch are here to make sure we take our medicine. Even if we don’t want to or not.

Grab a bottle of your favourite alcoholic beverage and just relax to this Sludge based monster of a brilliant EP.

The members are

Gladson - LeadGtr
Houston - Bass/ Vox
Kothmann - Vox/ Gtr
Mayhem - Drums (RECORD)
McMullen - Drums (LIVE)

I have to thank Earl for contacting me about this top notch superb EP – “On Black Waves”.

This is their 2011 release. 5 songs on for 25 mins or so. And it’s a pure blast from start to finish. Full of heavy psych Stoner rock tunes.

This has a heavy Stoner/Psych Rock influence all the way through. Too many bands to mention but these guys really do blend their influences brilliantly.

The vocals are superb and are reminiscent of Maynard James Keenan from his A Perfect Circle days. None so on the first track “Armada” - A 5.20 minute song of brilliant scope and epic guitar riffs.

The EP’s cover suits the music brilliantly. Really takes you to a futuristic land with some of the lyrics contained on each of the songs.

These guys have a really cool “Pop” sensibility to their songs that Foo Fighters and other bands like that do so well. You could really see these guys performing quite well in the commercial arena.

But they still stay in the Stoner Rock realm especially on “Luxury Car”. Another top-notch tune full of Stoner based riffs that bands like Dozer, Truckfighters have made their own.

Production is superb. Everything is played loud, heavy and fast-paced as anything you have heard this year.

So if you want a fast-paced Stoner Rock EP that stands out from the crowd. Then Interstelar prove with their awesome EP they are indeed in pole position for their own blend of Psych-Fusion-Stoner Based Pop Music.

Just an excellent EP full of Stoner based guitar riffs for everyone to get stuck into. Check out the best track on the EP. – “Defined By Opposites (Opposite Daze)" which shows what these guys do so brilliantly well.

Well since they mentioned Holy Mount I had to check these guys out. And I am glad I did.

What you get is 4 superb tracks that demands the listener’s attention from start to finish. Full of epic riffs from start to finish. This EP should get you rocking in no time.

Production is superb. And everything is played heavy and loud from the word go. The vocals are highly impressive as well. Reaching low and high notes I have not heard in a long while. They might take a few listens to get used to but they really do add the EP’s effect.

You can download this excellent EP for free from BandCamp.

Check out these superb Psych/Stoner Rockers here.

OMEAN are a Piece Psych/Sludge/Doom Metal band from New Orleans.

These guys play some brutal down-tempo Psych/Sludge/Doom Metal music. Full of angry vocals with top notch Doom/Sludge Riffs with a great down-tempo feel.

They band have released two great releases. A Live Album and an EP. The Live Demo is available for free download and the amazing Sea God EP costs $4 dollars.

Both essential releases to own in my opinion. This is heavy epic stuff from the word go. The riffs are crushing, thick and brutal at times. But still with a great Psychedelic feel to them.

Production is a bit ropey at tines. But you can questions the band’s talent or commitment into punishing the listener till their epic music has ended that lasts long into the memory.

Another superb band to keep an eye on. Superb Stuff.

EGGNOGG - Moments In Vacuum Review

EGGNOGG are a Psych/Sludge/Doom/Stoner/Grunge Power Trio from

The members are

Bill O'Sullivan
Justin Karol
Ryan Quinn

EGGNOGG first burst onto the scene in 2009 with their amazing debut album III. It was a 64-minute amazing thrill ride of Grunge/Psych/Stoner/Doom/Sludge vibe and heavy riffs.

They got great acclaim from the metal underground scene for releasing such a brilliant record. If you can hunt it down then I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The guys then changed their name to The Nogg in 2010 and released an S/T EP for free download from their website. Another 25 minute into the warped mind of this hugely talented band.

Well they guys are back (along with their original name) with their 2011 brilliant album – “Moments In Vacuum”. An 8 song and 74-minute epic of an album.

This album is a different beast to their debut album. It’s louder, meaner, angrier and full of more superb Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal Riffs with a more out of control psychedelic edge.

EGGNOGG have upped their game on this release. The riffs are more powerful, better played and more out of control as well. This album is dripping with psych rock/metal vibes from the word go.

The album has it’s fair share of epic tracks. Especially on tracks like Magog, Wheel Of The Year and Rhythmic Past.

This is like an album I haven’t heard this year. Full of strange sounds, ambient noises mixed together with Sludge, Stoner, Doom music to take the listener on a journey into the unknown. I could name SLEESTAK superb new album as a close relation to this album. Both epic in scope with different genres for the listener to get stuck into.

These guys sound like a weird and original brilliant blend of Pink Floyd, YOB, Sabbath, and Alice In Chains performing as one gigantic supergroup.

It really is hard to pigeonhole these guys as they play a whole range of genres and do a superb blend of mixing them altogether into something you haven’t heard before.

I wish I could do a track-by-track review but every time I listen to this masterpiece (and that’s what it is); I get different views and takes on each of the songs. One minute my fave song could be Wheel Of The Year. Then it could change to something else.

This album is truly something special. You get something different from each and every listen. There is an excellent review on Doommantia that people can check out as well. And I do agree with every word of it.

These guys are one of the most unique band on the Doom/Sludge/Stoner Underground as they are not afraid to take risks with their music. You feel you have the album all figured out but then the guys throw a curve ball to take the album into a different direction altogether. Especially with some of the voiceover parts on a few of the tracks.

And that’s why I applaud EGGNOGG for being one of the most unique and original bands out there.

Even more impressive is one minute their will be a straight forward Stoner/Doom/Sludge Riff then the guys throw an ambient effect from out of nowhere to take the track into an entirely different direction altogether.

This is Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal with an edge. It has a conscience. At times you feel this album is truly alive.

Everything on this album is brilliant. Production. Instrument Playing, vocals and the cool and strange psychedelic cover.

Like SLEESTAK and THREEFOLD LAW – EGGNOGG have released an incredible album that demands the listener’s full attention. As its one of 2011’s genre defining releases.

You can own this brilliant release from Palaver Records. And check out the guys from EGGNOGG from the links below.

THE UNBEHELD are a 4 Piece Psych/Stoner/Sludge Rock Band from

The members are

Brian Anderson
Benjamin Aviotti
Nathan Raab
Shawn Zorn
These guys have been around a while and they have released a couple of EP’s and 1 full-length album. Which I am posting about today.

The band play a great blend of Psych, Stoner, and Sludge where things get extremely loud and heavy from time to time.

Their 2009 full-length album “In The Arms Of Mother Chaos” is an enigma of genres. Fitting through many but not staying permantely in none of them. A true hybrid of the genres but all blended to brilliant effect.

I will admit I am a latecomer to these talented Sludge/Stoner Rockers. But I am happy to be a fan of these guys now.

As their 2009 album is simply brilliant. Full of Sludge/Stoner/Doom/Psych riffs from the word go. With simply awesome vocals to match as well.

Parts KYUSS, MONSTER MAGNET, CAVE-IN, BARONESS and MASTODON. But all done in The Unbeheld own unique and original take on the genre’s mentioned above.

Check out tracks like – “Not Word”, “Pretty Simple Agenda”, “Holy Water Journey” and “Voices Of Yage”.

All of these tracks show what these guys can do and they can be mentioned in the same league as the bands mentioned above.

If your looking for something different but extremely heavy then these guys are for you.

Production is Superb. These guys don’t waste one second to play their amazing music to superb effect.

This is seriously one of the most surprising records I should of picked up on sooner. But better late than never. This album will definitely be getting multiple repeat listenings that is what you should be doing when you have downloaded this brilliant album.

You can download this brilliant album from BandCamp’s famous pay anything you want type deal. So get downloading now!!!

Another highly recommended band everyone should check out. Simply amazing release.

OAK are a Progressive/Post-Metal/Sludge Band. -This isn't the American metal band OAK but a band I think is from Sweden according to their BandCamp Page.

OAK play an intense hybrid of Progressive, Sludge and Post-Metal to maximum effect. If your into ISIS, TOOL, PELICAN and other bands from those genres. You will find much to enjoy here.

They have just released their new album “DEMO 2011” for free download from BandCamp. The album is 4 tracks long and runs for a superb 42 mins or so.

Loud, heavy and intense from the word go. It’s full of heavy pounding Sludge/Post-Metal Guitar Riffs and hard hitting drumming with a great progressive feel to it as well. Throw in great hardcore-based vocals then you have a great album to listen to time and time again.

All of the songs are epic tracks. Running from 9 mins to 12 mins in length. These songs take their time to build up their huge epic riffs. This is what we all expect from a top-notch Sludge/Post-Metal album.

And this is no exception. Production is superbly handled. You can hear every note played to superb effect

All of the tracks are excellent. Hard to pick out a favourite as they are all great as each other. Especially “Beyond Oblivion” a slow-burning epic of a track before the loud riffs kick in.

This album could easily be passed off as a professional release. As it’s that great. Highly recommended. So get downloading now!!!

You will seriously be surprised by this great release as I was. Great work from everyone involved.

STELLA are a 3 Piece Blues/Rock/Stoner-Metal Band from Columbus, OHIO

The members are

Lauri "The plug" Reponen
Charlie Manion
Kevin "Dronelord" Hall

Member emailed me about his band’s demos “Idiot Loser” and “Love Songs In The Key of Drone” both available for free download from BandCamp

This surprisingly incorporates so many genres in such a short space of time. Punk, Rock, Psych, Blues, Stoner and even 70’s hard rock.

The production is a bit ropey in some cases. But what you cant deny these guys know how to rock out on both releases. Some top notch riffs that transcends all of the genres.

Their songs are a short sharp kick to the senses. And I thoroughly recommend both EP’s to rock out to.

These guys remind me of Torche in the ways of writing their songs. Both undeniably heavy in a short amount of time. No more than 3 mins in some cases. But then your already sold on this talented band who know how to have a good time.

The vocals have a true DIY PUNK attitude to them that really adds to the band’s music.

This is proper DIY MUSIC that all demos should sound like. It’s not glossy or professionally produced at all. Mixing is raw and all over the place. But this is what make these releases so damn great. A band that is laid bare for everyone to listen to. And they really do have some catchy Pop-Metal riffs.

Give these guys a chance as they are a great band who know how to incorporate all the different genres of Rock/Metal. And they really do stand out from the crowd.

If these guys ever put out a full-length release I will most be intrigued to see where they go.

This is Stoner-Blues-Psych-Punk-Metal-Pop Music for the idiot loser in us all.

Great stuff guys and highly recommended.

STOCK OPTIONS are a 3 Piece Instrumental Stoner/Doom/Hardcore Rock Band from Milwaukee, WI

The 3 members are:

Kevin DeMars: guitar
Martin Defatte: bass
Mark Sheppard: drums
STOCK OPTIONS have an experienced pedigree between all 3 members. Check what all the guys have been involved in past and present reading their official bio here.

So you know STOCK OPTIONS are the real deal. And believe me they are.

They play a superb blend of Stoner Rock, Doom Metal, and Hardcore with hints of Sludge and Post-Metal music.

Some people have called their style a mixture of Black Sabbath jamming with Russian Circles. But the guys are more than that. They bring their own unique take on the world of Instrumental Rock/Metal.

They have released their brilliant new S/T new album. You get 7 cracking tracks on for 33 mins or so.

The guys are all accomplished and brilliant musicians and they can really hold a tune among the best in Rock/Metal music.

Their new album is a work of brilliant riffs played against the backdrop of Doom/Hardcore/Sludge music. They have been called Post-Hardcore but I think they are more into the realm of Doom/Sludge Metal. As things do get loud from time to time.

All of the tracks are on for 5 or 6 minutes so you get plenty of terrific Doom/Sludge based riffs from all concerned.

Especially on tracks like “Up With The Sun”, “Rum Soaked Crooks” and “Blood and Fireworks”.

Yes the Black Sabbath and Russian Circles influences are there but they do add other aspects of the rock/metal genre into their music. Some great Psychedelic overtones on “Mass Acres”.

The guys hit through a lot of genres on this great release. It really is hard to pigeon hole them. I would call them Alternative Sludge Rockers as they don’t stick to one overall genre but a great influx of many. To create something you don’t hear quite so often.

And that is something hard to do. To add more than genre but still stand out from the crowd with their own original take on the genre.

The guitar and drum work on this release is simply a joy to listen to. More like a duel at times to see who can be the loudest and heaviest of the trio.

Production is superb. All the notes are expertly played. These guys know when to throw the hammer down and crank up the volume all the way up so your head-banging along until the dying seconds of each song.

“Silver Hooves” is my favourite song on the album. Starts really slow, quiet and majestic. Takes it time to build up into a loud wall of thrilling Sludge/Doom Rock Music.

These guys can give any top notch Instrumental Sludge/Doom Metal Band a run for their money. These guys could be amazing touring partners for PELICAN and RUSSIAN CIRCLES.

Both playing in the same field of Instrumental Sludge/Rock Music but STOCK OPTIONS really do add their own originality into proceedings.

I cant rate this superb album highly enough. I have to thank bassist Marty for emailing me this fantastic album. I can’t get enough of it. 2011 is shaping up to be a great year for amazing Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal albums. And these guys can be added into that list. As this is simply an essential release everyone should own.

An awesome album. Highly Recommended!!!

Kastner - drums
Lippmann - voice
Tiefenthaler - guitar
Zehetner - guitar

IRON HEEL play a superb mix of Psych/Sludge/Stoner Metal that bands like BARONESS, HIGH ON FIRE, SLEEP have made their own over the years.

They have released their new EP “Black Shovel”. 3 tracks at 15 mins or so.

More of a release statement to the world that another great band to check out has arrived. OK nothing new or original but they do play excellent Stoner/Sludge Metal with a cool Psych vibe. And the vocals are excellent. Ranging from Clean vocals to the expected Hardcore Grunts and Growls.

These guys really do know how to play top-notch Psych/Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs that other bands of the genre would be proud to call their own. Simply sublime how they blend all of the great riffs into one. Interchanging brilliantly all the way through.

All of the tracks are superb. Production is excellent. Every note is played heavy and loud.

Standout track is Gravedigger Strike Song. An excellent Stoner/Sludge Metal riff driving the song through out with excellent heavy pounding drumming as well.

If these guys do release a longer release I will definitely be checking them out. As this is a band with hopefully a bright future a head of them. Superb!!!

You can download this superb release free from BandCamp.

Production on each EP varies. But they are still expertly produced. You get a hugely talented band playing superb Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal riffs. If your into the above bands then you seriously need to check these dudes out.

Their Jam Space Recordings is just immense. This is a band on a mission to show people how truly talented they are. Full of epic riff after epic riff. These songs have a superb down-tempo feel that THOU have become famous for.

These guys could be serious touring partners for THOU. But they mix in superb Stoner/Sludge/Doom influences to really add to their overall effect of their music.

Another great band to check out.

Check Out The Guys Here:

AFRONTAR are a Sludge/Doom/Hardcore Band from El Salvador.

AFRONTAR play a fast and furious blend of Stoner, Sludge, Doom, Grind and Hardcore. To make up for one very angry record.

Their new record “Anatema” is 12 tracks and runs for 26 mins or so. Even though this record is short make no mistake this is a very powerful and superb release.

Full of superb Sludge/Doom/Stoner Riffs mixed in with a great blend of Hardcore thrown in for good measure.

Simply a stunning album for everyone to check out.

Production is superb. The band just rocks out from the word go. Yeah the songs are short but these guys manage loads of Sludge/Stoner Riffs for everyone to get stuck into. With great vocals as well. This should have you head-banging in no time.

GRANTED EARTH - Band To Check Out

GRANTED EARTH are an excellent 3 Piece Sludge/Post-Rock/Post-Metal band from Monterey, California, USA.

The members are:

Jon Ugale - Drums/Vocals
Becky Ugale - Guitar
Mallory Mickel - Bass

The band have released two quite frankly fucking superb releases.

2010 - Thermal Tide

2011 - Nomad

Both of these releases are full of epic sludge/post-metal riffs that NEUROSIS, ISIS and PELICAN made famous. But this band really add their own vibes to the Sludge/Post Metal arena. They mix in some excellent Progressive Rock as well to truly stand out from the crowd.

How these guys are not bigger I don't know.  The guitars are handled superbly by Becky and Mallory. They both bring a sense of calm and urgency to proceedings before they go into Sludge/Post-Metal overdrive when the loud and heavy Post-Metal riffs kick in.

The drumming is superb as well. Really driving the music along through the loud and quiet passages that you expect from Sludge/Post-Metal bands.

The guys were mainly an Instrumental Sludge/Post-Metal band on their outstanding first release. But the guys made a brave decision in adding vocals to their new release - Nomad. And it's a decision that pays off brilliantly. As Jon's vocals sound of a tortured soul going through like the title suggests. A Nomadic journey into the unknown.

So if your into ISIS, PELICAN, and OPETH then you will absolutely dig these guys. As they really are perfect blend of those bands and then some.

You can buy and check these releases out at their BandCamp Page for the low price of $5 each. Very much worth it in my opinion.

Check Out This Excellent Band Here.
