Review:
Dune
released one of my fave debut records in 2013 with Progenitor. A
stirring mix of Sludge, Doom, Crust, Post-Metal and Stoner Metal
riffage blended with science fictions to stand out from the crowd.
Well 12 months later Dune have released this 2 song 12 minute monster
– Aurora Majesty.
The
first track – Into The Traveller's Halls – sees Dune venture into
more progressive Sludge Metal territory with scary as hell pitch
black vocals. Dune just unleash hell on earth with this track. It
brutal in every way as the riffs consume everything around you that
make it very hard to escape. Parts early Mastodon and High On Fire,
this is a winning track from Dune as it simply crushes. Plain and
Simple.
Second
Track – Of Blade And Carapace – carries on the heavy as hell
destructive crust/sludge hybrid with shades of Progenitor slowly
worming it's way through to the surface. This is the heaviest track
that Dune have written so far and if this is the new direction the
band are heading then their full length record is going to be
something special indeed. Victor and Dan provide some stunning dual
guitar work on this track before hints of Post-Metal noises add a
sense of calm. It shows Dune flexing their progressive sludge muscles
before adding another heavy round of death metal based growls and
grunts to give this track an unpleasant tone which never outstays
it's welcome.
Shame
it's only 2 songs and 12 minutes long but it shows the future is
looking very bright for DUNE. Bring on the full length record in
2015.
Excellent and Highly Recommended.
