Burning Monk - S/T Album Review

Burning Monk is a Punk/Doom/Sludge Metal Band from Oakland, USA

The members are:

Kevin=Drums
Matt=Guitar/Vocals
Damien=Bass/Vocals

You ever heard the saying – Usea Sledgehammer to crack a nut. Well that saying describes the next band perfectly well. Burning Monk is a band that play fast and furious Punk Inspired Doom/Sludge Metal carnage fuelled riffs. Their S/T debut album is 13 tracks and 26 mins long of pure mayhem.

If you’re expecting a progressive journey into the unknown they you’re out of luck here. Burning Monk is a schizophrenic all attack on the senses. Out of tuned guitars, DIY Hardcore Punk drumming and crazy vocals give Burning Monk a very strange vibe that is pure exhilarating from start to finish.

Imagine Iggy & The Stooges jamming with Black Flag and The Melvins but at a faster twisted pace. The album has too many excellent crazy headbanging riffs and moments to mention. These guys are not playing just for your enjoyment. They are playing for themselves as well. You may think Burning Monk are having one joke to many but look beyond the crazy persona as you will find a truly talented band waiting to be discovered.

Check out the insanity and genius of tracks such as Oblivion, 15 Minutes of Lame and 10 Years Later. All proving that Burning Monk know how to write an unstoppable riff capable of destroying everything in sight. If you think all Monk’s should be peaceful then look no further than these insane rockers.

OK so the album maybe on the short side but these guys mission is to destroy everything quickly as possible. Yeah it is crazy, insane, anarchic, loud and violent. However, it is one of the most fun albums you will hear all year. You want fast-paced high energetic dark and twisted Doom/Sludge Metal. Then look no further and worship at this Burning Monk.

They have made me a follower…..

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
