Review:
TarLung's brief bio tells you all you need to
about this great band and their excellent S/T debut album. Doom, Sludge and
Stoner Metal is what these loud as hell rockers deal in. Though you can throw a
few occult/horror references in as well. It all makes up for one loud and
action packed album you won't get enough of.
Opening track – Earth's Hunger – blends
hard-hitting riffs with almost death based vocals to give TarLung a more
menacing edge compared to other bands doing the same sort of thing. The riffs
are quite melodic at times even with the dark doom and gloom atmospherics
lurking in the background. TarLung take influences from bands such as Sabbath,
Saint Vitus, Kyuss, High On Fire and Church Of Misery that richly develops
their riff-laiden sound.
Second track – Mountain King – has a murkier
fuzz sound compared to the first track. It's another hard-rocking affair with
Phillip on fine demented form once more as he unleashes more despairing tales
of madness with the Doom Metal aspect coming home to roost. Though it's the
riffs that hold your attention as TarLung don't fuck about here. They don't
waste time on slow-paced style melodies. This is music to sell your soul to.
It's nasty, violent and creepy which makes for a better experience as TarLung pile
on the heavy riffs for you to survive from.
Third Track – Last Breath – captures the manic
energy of early era – Church Of Misery – while blending it with a more modern
Doom/Stoner Metal sound. The song doesn't stray too far from the opening two
tracks. Nor why should it. As TarLung have struck upon a winning formula here.
Dark and demented Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs is what the Doctor ordered. Check
out the fuzz-laiden riffs once again as TarLung impress through out.
The rest of the album carries on the same
twisted path of great riffs and dark lyrics for you to survive from. Other
great tracks to check out are - ALL OF THEM!!!
I don't know what more I can say about this
album. Other than it's a fucking blast from start to finish that will go down a
storm with the Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal community. I have a feeling that
TarLung will be a name to look out for in the next few years. As this is a
thrilling and highly confident debut album that oozes class. Do yourself a
favour and headover to BandCamp and download this now on Buy Now Deal. You can buy
physical copies here by

Brilliant and Highly Recommended.
