Bud Spencer - People are curious but from the outside Vinyl Review

People are curious but from the outside cover art

Bud Spencer is an Instrumental Sludge/Stoner Metal Band from France

The members are:

Vince of Chaos : Drums
Musareign : Guitar
Le Sourd : Bass

Bud Spencer is named after a famous Italian actor and one I associate from my childhood with quite fondness. Bud Spencer is the English Name for Italian Actor who made a name for himself in Italian Westerns, Comedies and Action films in the 60’s , 70’s and 80’s. He was usually paired up with Terence Hill. Another cool Italian Actor using an English name to appeal to the English Speaking world in the same time.

Now Bud Spencer made a lot of great films when I was a kid. And I used to love watching them – Who Finds a Friend, Finds a Treasure, Odds & Evens, The Sheriff and The Satellite Kid and Miami Supercops. He is a great hulk of a man with a big heart and gentle soul. But get on the wrong side of him then he would let his big fists do the talking.

Now it’s time to move onto Bud Spencer the band. What we have here is an excellent Instrumental Sludge/Stoner Metal band taking influence from bands I am currently fans of now. So it’s quite fitting that Bud Spencer are a hard hitting menace with a lot of soul just like the great actor they are named after.

Their new album – People Are Curious but from the Outside – was released in March 2012 and I am only reviewing it now as I bought the excellent vinyl record the other week. And it’s sounds wonderful. Every track is played loud and thick. The way it's meant to be played is on vinyl. This is the perfect record for vinyl. The album is only on for 34 mins or and features eight top-notch instrumental Sludge/Stoner Metal tracks.

First track – Banana Joe is a 3:30 minute blast of top-notch Instrumental Sludge/Stoner Rock, which will show you what is in store for you all. Just a band with the talent of writing a top-notch action packed Sludge/Stoner Rock tune.

The riffs are played fast and furious that will leave you breathless at times. Taking influence from a wide range of bands and genres but still sounding wholly original. Bud Spencer are just another outstanding Sludge/Stoner Metal band coming out of France right now next to Abrahma, Huata, Wheelfall and LSDSM.

Just a few of the recent French Imports who we have featured here recently and can’t get enough of. French Stoner/Sludge Metal is on the rise now and you can add Bud Spencer to that great list of bands to check out right now.

If you’re a fan of bands like Baroness, Mastodon, Karma To Burn and Pelican then you will find much to enjoy here. The tracks on the album really do have an action packed feel to them. That’s still with the short running time of 3 to 4 mins for most of the tracks. They instantly draw you into another world and one that is very hard to escape from.

Check out standout tracks – Ugly Cap, Cuir Moustach and the brilliant 7-minute epic – Sac a Vainde to see why I rate this band so highly. If you want a hard-hitting pummelling beast of an album then you can’t ignore this album.

The instrumental work is just nothing short of breathtaking especially the drumming. It feels like the mythical creature on the album cover is actually behind the drums. Or did the band actually get Bud Spencer into the studio, to lay down a few tracks and he used his fists for the drums. As the drumming is loud from the word go.

I have gone on long enough about this great band. The bottom line is that - People Are Curious but from the Outside – is a brilliantly produced work that any band would be proud to call their own.

A great introduction to this excellent band. If you like what you hear, then headover to BandCamp right now and buy this on any format you can shake an Italian actor’s fist at.

Awesome and Highly Recommended.
