Demonic Death Judge - SkyGods Review

Demonic Death Judge - Skygods

Demonic Death Judge is a Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal Band from Finland

The members are:

Pasi Hakuli - Bass
Lauri Pikka - Drums
Saku Hakuli - Guitars
Jaakko Heinonen - Vocals

Demonic Death Judge are a band we all should know about by now. As they have released an excellent collection of music since their inception in 2009. Since then they have released two critically acclaimed EP’s and one Full Length Record – The Descent

Well Demonic Death Judge are a band who never stop for long as they are back with their eagerly awaited second album – Skygods.

An 8-song opus that runs for 47 mins or so. If you are a fan of their previous albums then you are going find much to enjoy here as Demonic Death Judge have excelled themselves here. Adding Post-Rock and Ambient Music as well to show they are not afraid to experiment with their already set sound.

Don't worry as Demonic Death Judge still throw in loads of great riffs for you to head-bang to. Blending Sludge, Doom and Stoner Metal to highly original effect. This is probably Demonic Death Judge’s best album to date.

Opening track – Skygods – show you that Demonic Death Judge have lost none of their swagger or magic. As this feels like a natural continuation from their last album - The Descent. Just put the volume on full blast and immerse yourself into the world of the mighty Demonic Death Judge. This is a blistering start to this excellent album.

Up next is Salomontaari – A 7:40-minute epic that will send your emotions into overdrive as this album has quite a heavy pounding riff driving it through it’s natural conclusion. Mainly to rock out. Vocalist sounds as angry as ever and his grizzled vocals add a sombre mood to proceedings before a cool breezy riff kicks in around the 2-minute mark, which makes this one of the album’s standout tracks.

My fave track on this brilliant album is – Nemesis. This is probably the best five mins of music that Demonic Death Judge have ever recorded. A truly stunning track showcases what a great band Demonic Death Judge actually are. This is music I want Demonic Death Judge to play more of in the future. It might not be the heaviest but it does have excellent vocals mixed with sublime Post-Rock and Ambient Style Noises that gives the song a classic feel to it. Believe me this song will have the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end. It’s seriously that great.

I am not going to do a song-by-song review, as I don’t want to spoil any surprises, as this is DDJ’s most accomplished work to date. It’s best for you all to check this excellent album for yourself. It will take you on a rollercoaster ride of riffs that is impossible to ignore.

That’s the beauty of this album, it has ideas you wouldn’t normally associate with a Demonic Death Judge album. It shows Demonic Death Judge are one of the true innovators currently in the Sludge/Stoner Metal genre. Demonic Death Judge never put a foot wrong. Every note and riff is played to perfection. A wonderful sounding album that has many layers to it which means one listen is never enough. You need to listen to this album over & over again to experience the full effect of it.

Skygods is a true work of genius. This is an absolute masterpiece and one of the definitive must have albums of 2012. So do yourself a favour, head over to BandCamp now and buy this amazing album now. You won’t be sorry.

Amazing and Highly Recommended.

Well, I couldn't resist anymore or wait another day to listen to the album!
Man, you're so fucking right when you say it's their best album so far! I liked The Descent and still love Kneel, but Skygods is just the upper level!

I'm so impressed by this album that it's incredible! The opening track and its instrumental part sounds like classic stoner/sludgy bands (let's think Down or Dozer) but when Jaakko starts screaming, man, it's the heaviest music you've ever wanted (dreamed) to listen to!
And it's going the same way all the album! Salomontaari sounds like The Descent, Knee High is closer to Kneel, but fuck, it's less "pure metal" and more stoner than what they've done so far! Well I just fucking love this album already!!!

Anyone around here reading this review and giving an hear will get addicted in a glimpse!
