Folks please don’ let the description – Medieval Power Rock Band – put you off as Shields play a storming blend of Torche style Sludge/Stoner Metal.
Shields have two excellent releases up for Buy Now Download on BandCamp for you to check out.
2011 – Beyond The Pale
2012 – Operation Thunderbolt
Two stunning EP’s which accounts for 35 minutes of awesome heavy slabs of Sludge/Stoner Metal to drown you hearing to. If you’re a fan of Torche then you’re going to love this like I did. This is quite ironic as I saw Shields live in concert supporting Torche. And who was I standing next to – Andrew from Torche, Tilts and Riddle Of Steel fame. He was enjoying the set as much as I was.
So these guys have some serious talent. They have supported bands like Black Moth and Turbowolf. They are considered one of Leeds best rock bands. And on this form, it’s hard not to disagree. Shields have a phenomenal live presence. Definitely one of the best support bands I have seen LIVE in recent years.
But this is about their EP’s. Beyond The Pale is an excellent 27 minute blast of hard rocking Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs to head-bang to. Shields play intense riffs you cannot ignore but with a great sense of humour as well. Some of the song titles are just insane – My buddy went to Azeroth & all I got were these lousy arrows, Nimoon Bilboggin and Mooseknuckle.
Reserve judgement until you hear them as Shields have written Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs of the highest order. The band make you care about their crazy songs, as the riffs are very powerful indeed.
I didn’t know about these guys until the day of the Torche gig (Sunday – 19th Aug 2013) and I was a bit wary but they made me a fan right away. I downloaded the EP’s the very next day and I have been listening to them non-stop since then.
Shields are a fantastic band and are definitely one of the best kept secrets in the realm of UK Sludge/Stoner Metal. Check these guys out now. You won’t be sorry. See why I recommend them very highly. Headover to BandCamp now and get your weekend off to a great start by downloading these excellent releases. You won’t be sorry.
Fave tracks have to be My Name Is Mudd and Christpuncher. Both tracks showing what this amazing band is all about. Sublime vocals matched with brilliant loud and heavy riffs.
Excellent and Highly Recommended.
