CONAN - MONNOS REVIEW

CONAN is a 3 Piece Sludge/Stoner Metal Band from the UK

The members are:

Jon Davis on guitar and vocals
Phil Coumbe on bass and vocals
Paul O’Neil on drums

CONAN are a brilliant Sludge/Stoner Metal band from the UK and one of the very best that the UK has to offer. CONAN have released a string of acclaimed releases since their inception in 2007.

Their last release was 2010’s Horseback Battle Hammer which had us Sludge/Stoner metal raising our horns in unison for a superb and heavy as anything debut.

Well the guys are back with their 2nd full length album – MONNOS. And this is CONAN’s best work to date. MONNOS is a 6 song 40 minute blast of superb Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs you will be playing over and over again.

This is CONAN’s first release on Burning World Records. MONNOS is an absolute beast of an album. It’s heavier, louder and angrier than anything that has came before it. This album is a bona-fide masterpiece of top notch heavy Sludge/Stoner Metal riffage.

The album starts off with the superb “6:49” minute epic – “Hawk As Weapon”. A truly brilliant song full of heavy pounding Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs that sets the scene for this epic album.

If you liked CONAN’s previous releases then your going to love this. Everything has been turned upto 11 and then some. Add top-notch vocals and what you have here is an amazing release by a superb band with a unique story to tell as well.

Believe me this album will be receiving a lot of acclaim as it is truly an outstanding album of Sludge Metal that CONAN should rightly be proud of.

These guys throw in superb Psych Riffs through out their music to stand out from the crowd. The riffs are played at a great mid-tempo to draw the listener in from start to finish. Especially on tracks – “Invincible Throne”, “Headless Hunter” and my fave track “Golden Axe”.

Golden Axe isn’t the most heaviest track but its where the band show their most creativity. Blending amazing synth based riffs that brings back memories of a superb score from a classic John Carpenter film. I don’t know if this was the bands intention but it really shows CONAN aren’t afraid to experiment with their already established sound. Quite possibly CONAN’s best track to date in my humble opinion.

This album should hopefully launch CONAN on the international stage in a big way. As these guys deserve it. They have been doing this for a long while and now its time for the world to open their eyes to CONAN.

MONNOS is a genre-defining classic in the making. Simply Superb.

You can buy this brilliant album in April 2012. This is an album that both myself and Phil wholeheartedly recommend without any hesitation at all. Phenomenal.
