GALAXICON - OLD GODS REVIEW

Galaxicon are a Sludge Metal Band from Memphis, USA

The members are:

Paul - drums/vocals
Ben - guitar/vocals
Shawn - bass/vocals

Galaxicon are a top-notch Sludge Metal band that blends Doom, Stoner and Pysch Rock to their music. They say they are influenced by YOB, Neurosis and ZZ Top. Well you can hear the YOB and Neurosis influences very well but not much in the way of the legendary bearded rockers.

But they are still an amazing band to check out. They have just released their superb new album – Old Gods – A 6 song and 35 minute hard-hitting Sludge/Stoner Metal riffage to start your day off with a bang.

If you’re into YOB, Neurosis and newer bands like Batillus and Stoneburner then you’re going to love these guys. As they play the same top-notch Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal music that ourselves at Sludgelord’s are big fans of.

And this album is no exception. It just rocks from start to finish. It’s full of brutal riffs with a great psych edge to them blended with sublime bleak down-tempo vocals to match as well.

The album is brilliantly produced and engineered which is not surprising since the talent involved. This is one big brutal beast of an album that never lets up with it’s unrelentless pace and lyrics that drive the album through to it’s powerful conclusion.

Tracks like Serpent Saviour, Rapture Of The Deep, Snake Oil and Inn Keeper show what this band does to perfection time and time again. In my mind they bring a cool Mastodon early era vibe to their music on the 2nd half of this outstanding album.

If your looking for an album to brighten up your day then please move on. Galaxicon are not in the business of bringing sunshine and light into your life. But more into the business of bring chaos, destruction and eternal darkness into your hollow little life. And it’s a world I found very hard to escape. This is music to terrify your neighbour with and I loved every terrifying second of it.

This is a band with a purpose and I applaud them for their bleak message and not shying away from that in their music The band are rightly going places if they keep this up for future releases.

It’s an exceptional release that demands your full attention now and showcases another great band to check out now. Just another brilliant release that blew my mind.

Old Gods is available to buy from BandCamp and I recommend you get a copy now.

Brilliant and Highly Recommended.
