DOPETHRONE - III - Album Review

Dopethrone are a Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal Band from Montreal, Canada.

The members are:

Borman = Drums
Vincent = Guit -Vocals
Vyk = Base

Dopethrone are a brutal and brilliant band inspired by bands like Sabbath, Electric Wizard, Bongzilla, EyeHateGod who have released two critically acclaimed albums so far - 2009's Demonsmoke and 2011's Dark Foil.

Both albums were critically acclaimed from where it counts in the Underground realm of Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal.

We all know who Dopethrone are. Or you should do. As they are the finest Underground Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal band who deserve a shot at the big time right now.

They have released their best album to date with III. A 5 song and 36 minute bruising encounter going throw the dark world of that horrible thing called THE OCCULT and DRUGS. And to their credit Dopethrone have released their most defining work to date. And another contender for album of the year.

If you want songs about Drugs and mainly that thing called Grass, Weed, Mary-Jo well you get the point. And what they do the human body and spirit then this is the album for you. Dopethrone have delivered a masterpiece of modern Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal.

The riffs and vocals are as bleak as a bad acid trip. But what a fucking ride. It's a ride you want to take over and over again.

Opening track - "Hooked" - does exactly that. It gets you hooked on the dark magical vibes of Dopethrone with a creepy audio sound clip before the majestic riff kicks in. A 5.06 monster of a track that will show you that they have came on leaps and bounds since their last brilliant album.

The riffs come thick and fast all the way through with brilliant audio clips to portray this dark and unflinching blast of epic Stoner Metal riffs.

Next up is Reverb Deep - A 10:03 minute blast which wastes no time at all in taking over your soul. Just light up your best bong and let Dopethrone do all the talking. It's a dark twisted journey into the dark vortex of your mind.

This is probably Dopethrone's best song to date. The riffs are absolutely epic. Layers of brain-crushing noise mixed in with top-notch bleak down-tempo riffs to shatter your little world to.

Imagine THOU jamming with one of the legendary NOLA metal bands and this is what you end up with. Just brutal pummelling riffs to listen to over and over again.

The production is flawless on this release which is amazing since Dopethrone an unsigned band. They do everything themselves. Proper DIY Sludge Metal the way it's supposed to be.

Dopethrone have a sly sense of humour in their music and it shows with some of the audio clips advising people what marijuana does to you. Check out the closing advice on ace track - Storm Reefer.

You don't have to be under the influence to enjoy this amazing album. This album speaks to all of us in some shape or form. We all have our own vices. Dopethrone play on that dark side of life but do it with such style and originality it's hard not to rock out with them from start to finish.

Devil's Dandruff is a 3:51 minute brillaint cautionary tale of that will send chills down your spine.

Final track - Cult Leader is a 9:50 minute epic featuring more top-notch bleak audio clips that you will feel accustomed to now. The riffs are possibly the most heaviest and most potent. Dopethrone are driving this brilliant album to it's epic conclusion.

A fitting end to a landmark classic album. This album will surely see Dopethrone thrown into the big time. They have proved with 3 brilliant releases they are ready to take over the world of Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal.

The world will wake up that an amazing band has truly arrived. Dopethrone are on to the verge of greatness.

Brilliant. I can't wait to hear what these guys have in store for us next.

Highly Recommended.
