From Ashes Rise - 'Rejoice The End/Rage Of Sanity' 7inch (Review)

By: Aaron Pickford

Album Type: 7" Single
Date Released: 16/07/2012

This is balls to wall fury, the band seemingly having a craving for barbaric splendour, which in turn will induce an epidemic of violent mental agitation.  Just sit back and accept the punishment.  This is an incredible release, which does not fail in it's mission! To get you banging your head!

The Review

Oh my god, what we have here are two outrageously catchy anthemic tunes. Step forward Southern Lord and take a bow, because you're singlehandedly releasing some of the best crust punk releases this year.  What's more, this could actually be the best of the bunch.  Yes, there may be only two tracks, but what spectacular tracks they are.

‘Rejoice The End’ is just about as close to perfection as you can get and is a track for which circle pits were made for.  It oozes with quality from start to finish, snarling with attitude.  Vocals barking viciously, guitars scarifying you, drums beating you and the low pitch off the bass resonating within you.  It is a mid paced track, to which the intro builds until the pick scrape of the guitar induces a spasmodic reaction within. What we get are lashings of guitars, switching from anthemic riffs to subtle arpeggios with ease and yet it retains that nihilistic and corrosive angst we have come to expect.  The energy and passion of the track is truly infectious and is some of the best crust punk pyrotechnics you're likely to hear this year.

‘Rage of Sanity’ from the outset is an uproarious and more reckless track.  Coming across like a Libertine, without moral restraint, this is From Ashes Rise at their most unrestrained and rampageous. This is balls to wall fury, the band seemingly having a craving for barbaric splendour, which in turn will induce an epidemic of violent mental agitation.  Just sit back and accept the punishment.  This is an incredible release, which does not fail in its mission! To get you banging your head!
