MOS GENERATOR - NOMADS Review

Image of Mos Generator - Nomads (CD)

Mos Generator is a Hard Rock/Stoner Rock Band from USA

The members are:

TONY REED / guitar, vocals, keyboards (stone axe, treepeople, goodbye harry, twelve thirty dreamtime.
SHAWN JOHNSON / drums (x-mindfunk, twelve thirty dreamtime)
SCOOTER HASLIP / bass (artimus maximus, voodoo gearshift, saltine, twelve thirty dreamtime)

MOS Generator is an excellent Hard Rock/Stoner Rock band who have been on this blog before when I reviewed their deluxe edition of their debut album.

They are led by the excellent musician and top-notch producer – Tony Reed. Tony is also part of the other excellent retro-rockers – Stone Axe who have been featured here as well.

Mos Generator have released numerous albums and releases through out their career. Well the guys are back after an almost 5 year absence with their stunning new album – Nomads – A 9 song collection of top notch tracks that runs for a superb 40 mins or so.

Make no question about it. Nomads is possibly one of their finest releases to date. It’s packed with sublime Hard Rock/Stoner Rock riffs that their fans have been waiting a long time for. And it has definitely been worth the wait.

If you haven’t heard of these guys before then I recommend you do so now and start with this excellent release. This is simply an outstanding collection of modern based Stoner Rock songs with a great Hard Rock edge.

Mos Generator don’t mess about. They get straight down to business with – Cosmic Ark. A head-banging rock odyssey that will have you hooked in no time at all. The band are on fine form and it feels like they have not been away at all.

Nothing much has changed in the already winning formula of Mos Generator template of great music. The riffs have got slightly heavier but stick to the same old magic. And that is a great thing.

Mos Generator know what the fans are expecting and they don’t disappoint at all. Like Tony sings about taking you to the stars. And he does take you on a wonderful journey into a galaxy far, far away.

Especially on the next track – Lonely Won Kenobi – A 5 minute blast of Hard Rock riffage with great lyrics to match. Wait till the excellent guitar solo around the half way mark. Shows you why these guys are highly thought of in the Hard Rock/Stoner Rock genres.

I am not a big fan of doing song by song reviews (unless asked of course) and I don’t want to on Nomads as it will spoil your enjoyment of this excellent album.

There are more outstanding songs to listen to especially – Step Up, Solar Angels, Torches and my fave track the 7 minute epic title track which personally I think is their strongest work to date.

All of the songs are superbly written and shows the band have lost none of their passion or drive for writing a great rock song.

The album is brilliantly produced which is not surprising since Tony Reed has produced and recorded it himself. It has great work all over it. Just loud and great heavy rock from the word go. The way it’s meant to be played.

Nomads is receiving rave reviews across the board and it’s not hard to see why. Mos Generator are one of the best Stoner Rock Bands currently out there. They have an instant likeability factor which makes it easier to become a fan of this great band.

Thanks to Ripple Music for letting me review this as they know I have been looking forward to this for quite a while.

Mos Generator and Ripple Music have another winner on their hands. Nomads is a brilliant album that should appeal to Mos Generator’s current fanbase and hopefully gain them a few more as well.

Awesome. End Of.

Nomads will be available to buy on 23rd October on Ripple Music from all Good Stockists.
