Void Of Sleep are a superb Psych Doom/Stoner/Sludge Metal band starting to make waves in the realm of Sludge/Stoner Metal.

They are about to release their brilliant debut album – Tales Between Reality and Madness in Jan 2013. A 7 song and 45-minute opus of magical psych based out of this world riffs.

I will say this now but this is the first masterpiece of Sludge Metal to be released in 2013. If this album were officially released in 2012, it would definitely be in my top 10 records of 2012. However, since it is released next year the first place of my best of 2013 has to be Void Of Sleep.

This album just amazes you with it’s creativity from the word go. Void Of Sleep have created a near perfect album of Sludge/Stoner Metal carnage with a healthy dose of Doom thrown in for great measure.

The first song – Blood On My Hands – highlights what is too come for the next 45 mins or so. Superb song writing with excellent hard-hitting riffs that will have you head-banging in no time at all.

From the album cover you might be expecting a dark and brooding album. Far from it. It does have its fair share of dark moments but Void Of Sleep add some excellent sing-along choruses that will have you singing for many days to come. Which I have been doing myself ever since my first listen.

Tracks such as – Sons Of Nothing, The Great Escape of The Giant Stone Man, Wisdom Of Doom and Lost In The Void (my fave track) all show you why I rate this album as the first must have release of 2013. The songs all have excellent stories to tell matched with huge anthemic Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs that will go down a storm on any live world stage.

I can see Void Of Sleep being equally at home on the big stadium arena rock shows as well as the small intimate gigs they probably are currently doing now. Seriously, these guys are that talented. The amount of excellent ideas on the album will leave you astounded. It still does this to me every time that I listen to it.

Void Of Sleep do pay homage to great bands past and present. I can hear elements of Tool, Isis, Thin Lizzy and even Foo Fighters with the sing-along choruses that have a huge likeability factor about them. However, Void Of Sleep still deliver their own great blend of Sludge/Stoner Metal that will have you begging for more.

Void Of Sleep have pulled out all of the stops on this album. The production is just immense. This is one of the best sounding debuts I have heard in a long time. So top marks from me on that score.

Another outstanding feature of this album are the vocals. Vocalist - Burdo - has a great vocal range that reminds me of Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt n his more quiet and reflective mood. Though when the time calls for an eerie epic heavy moment he is more than capable in turning your world upside down.

So there you have it. Void Of Sleep have released their first masterpiece. Long may it continue. Tales Between Reality and Madness has been receiving a whole load of praise at the moment. I expect this to continue in 2013 when the album is finally released upon the world.

Italy have another outstanding Sludge/Stoner Metal band to call their own to rank alongside Ufomammut, Zippo and Lento amongst others. Brilliant and Highly Recommended.

Do yourself a favour and buy this album as soon as it comes out on Aural Music on Jan 21st 2013.
