Sapien
is a 4-piece Stoner Sludge Metal band from Edinburgh. We formed in
the winter of 2012 and we take influences from a variety of genres
including sludge, doom, metal and prog.

Review:
I
should of featured Sapien sooner as the guys contacted me in
February. Then my good friend John, Drummer from Sorry For Nothing
raved on about these guys as they recently did a gig together in
Newcastle Upon Tyne. So with John's recommendation and telling off
still ringing in my ears I decided to give Sapien a spin.
Low
and behold, what did I discover. Another awesome Sludge/Stoner Metal
band from Scotland that came and fucked up my whole world. Damn their
debut album – Toad Handler – is superb. A 30 minute hard-rocking
Sludge/Stoner Metal album with a kick-ass progressive rock edge.
If
you're into TAINT and HARK then you need to check these guys out now.
As Sapien have some heavy as fuck crunching riffs for you to worship
at. Sapien have a great Punk edge to their music especially with the
vocals.
Each
of the 4 tracks have a high amount of epic riffs to impress you with.
Sapien don't fuck about. They feel like an out of control machine out
on a murderous rampage. This is high voltage Sludge/Stoner Metal with
a dangerous edge though. Check out blistering 2nd
track – Eyes Of The Sun – which features some excellent Thin
Lizzy style riffage. Always a big winner for me.
Loud
violent noises is a big part of the Sapien experience and that is
very clear on 3rd
track – Shackled and Shamed – which goes straight for the jugular
with meaty and bone-crunching riffs to fuck up your entire day.
Though
Sapien leave the best track to last to show their undeniable talent.
The 10 minute plus epic- TOAD HANDLER – which will impress the hell
out of you as the guys pull out all the stops with action packed
riffs. If you dig Progressive Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs with enough
power to knock you out with, then this is the track you need to
listen on FULL BLAST on your MP3 Player.
Toad
Handler is an excellent album from start to finish. It's brilliantly
produced and played by all involved. I
