The Sludgelord News: WORTH THE WEIGHT PROMO LAUNCHES WITH ALL DAYER: OCTOBER FILE, ALUNAH, GRIMPEN MIRE AND MORE @ THE RAINBOW, BIRMINGHAM - SUNDAY 1ST FEBRUARY 2015

Birmingham, the birthplace of heavy metal, has historically had a vibrant music scene but of late, it’s seemingly harder and harder to get a show off the ground. WORTH THE WEIGHT, an innovative new Midlands-based promotions company, are on a mission to bring underground music back to the second city and give the less-than-mainstream death/black/doom/sludge metal bands an exciting new dwelling. Launching on Sunday 1st February, the WORTH THE WEIGHT ALL DAYER is an event that’s bringing some of the most sought after Midlands acts to The Rainbow, one of Birmingham’s most historic venues that’s been recently renovated.

Hot off the trails of playing at Bloodstock and Damnation festivals, London’s OCTOBER FILE are headlining, bringing their cerebral post-metal and unique form of brutality to the event. In a career spanning over 11 years, the band have released four full-lengths, the latest being an epic concept entitled The Application of Loneliness, Ignorance, Misery, Love and Despair - An Introspective of the Human Condition: a worthy title for a record that truly plunges the depths of human emotion to return drenched in sincerity and a raw passion that escapes most modern metal. One of the most invigorating, intense and dramatic bands creating music today, and a live force to be reckoned with, OCTOBER FILE are a spectacle you don’t want to miss.

Main support comes in the form of ALUNAH, the homegrown doomriders with a penchant for all things occult. Since their 2008 EP Fall To Earth, Birmingham’s premier Sabbath-inspired riffers have made waves across the UK, leading to the release of Awakening The Forest, their latest record through Napalm that saw the band embark on a UK tour and now third jaunt across Europe. Letting the dust settle, and sifting through mountains of stellar reviews, ALUNAH are now ready to get back on the road in 2015 and WORTH THE WEIGHT is their first stop.

‘Cast thyself down in prostration before the fulsome horror of the GRIMPEN MIRE’ exclaims the cover of their latest release A Plague Upon Your Houses, the darkest and most venomous output of Birmingham’s biggest sludge metal powerhouse, GRIMPEN MIRE. Whether they’re out decimating the UK with Conan, Hooded Menace or Slabdragger, or holed up concocting some of the Midlands’ most vile aural filth, the ‘Mire pull no punches and make a worthy third headliner. We’re absolutely devastated to announce however, that this will be the last ever show GRIMPEN MIRE will be performing under their current guise, owing this to ‘financial and real-life commitments.’ We’re sure the city will be out in force to give the ‘Mire the send off they deserve.

The slew of support bands for this show would make a solid lineup on their own. The heaviest stoner rock band in the Midlands, BARON GREENBACK ride through on the strength of their new single ‘Shoot From The Mouth’: a seven and a half minute bruiser of a track, mixing down tuned riffs with melodic, gritty clean vocals.
If there is a big metal gig in between London and Manchester, expect to see BURDEN Of THE NOOSE decimating everything in the room. One of the most sought after acts going, hot off support slots with Vallenfyre, Anaal Nathrakh and Dripback: expect lots of riffs.

Rounding off the Brummie-induced headbanging are SHEBREW, the three-piece stoner band that refuse to get their melodies out of your head. Finally, opening, are newcomers to the scene CONJURER, a sludge metal band with riff’s to spare and a live intensity you’ll have to see to believe.
