Review:

Familiars come flying by with a digital two-song release nestled sonically within Dozer’s stomping ground. No, Familiars aren’t Swedish, they’re Canadians, but they have an American-via-Sweden feel to their rawk and execute it very well. So don’t be surprised when “Fire in the Sky” opens with a liberal use of crashing cymbals and loud tom hits. The crunch of the guitars drive this bad boy home and the four string takes center stage in “Beyond Its Reach,” adding a tasteful bit of raunch to the whole shebang.

For stoner rock, these are perhaps *ahem* familiar characteristics, but the major attribute for this band is the melancholy delivery of the vocals; imagine a subdued Chino Moreno hanging out in the backseat. With no more than two songs available for the listening public there’s not much more to say about Familiars other than that a full length debut is certainly something to look forward to.
