Magnetic North are a true force of nature in the realm of Sludge/Post-Metal. Their S/T debut album is fucking colossal masterpiece that transcends different genres and boundaries.
The 4 track and 45 minutes just fucking kills from the word go. You know your in for something special from the opening riffs from first track - Aleph - A track so powerful it will have you in it's reach for a long time afterwards.
The album is one of the heaviest Post-Metal releases I have heard this year and showcases one of the best Post-Metal bands I have heard in 2012 next to Carrion Mother.
3 of the tracks run past 11 mins or so while the shortest is on for 8 mins or so. So if epic sludge metal is your thing then Magnetic are your band.
The way the band blends the loud and quiet dynamics of Post-Metal is a thing of beauty. One minute loud, heavy and destructive then the next beautiful, quiet, ambient and melodic. But you know there is primal beast waiting to get out to cause unwanted mayhem and destruction.
And it's this anger where Magnetic North excel at. Check out tracks like Voyager and Daybreak for more evidence of this.
If your into ISIS, Neurosis, Cult Of Luna and bands like that then you need to check this brilliant band now. Magnetic North do add some great experimental vibes to their music. Shoegazing and Electronica for example. So it's great to see a band trying something different to the genre.
The album is expertly produced. The album feels like it was actually recorded in the vastness of Space. It has an epic and huge atmospheric feel to it that's impossible to ignore.
