http://roadkillsoda.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/cover2Big.jpg

RoadKillSoda is a Grunge/Stoner Rock band from Romania

The members are:

Sebastian Stancu (Spiritual Ravishment) - vox;
Mihnea Ferezan (Tep Zepi, M-51, The Fuzzenties) - gtrs;
Victor "Vava" Ferezan (Tep Zepi, The Fuzzenties) - bass;
Alex "Para" Ghita (Mediocracy, Traum, Environments) - drums

RoadKillSoda are a band who I have featured on the blog before back in 2011. Well they are back with their excellent debut album – Oven Sun. A 10 song and 35-minute blast of top-notch Stoner Rock riffs blended with a healthy dose of Grunge to brighten up the summer season.

Which is quite apt since Oven Sun is drenched in cool Desert Rock and Stoner Rock riffs. It might not be the most original of sounds coupled with the fact the album is stuck in a 90’s time warp. RoadKillSoda have transported the best sounds and vibes of 90’s Grunge and Stoner Rock to mix up with modern day hard rock riffage.

If you are a fan of Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Kyuss then RoadKillSoda are a band you need to check out now. The vocals have a distinct Layne Staley aura around them. So expect gravel pitched vocals to match the excellent Stoner Rock riffs on show.

First track – Nobody Home – comes out all engines blazing with a riff that could have come from the legendary Desert Rock scene. This is a superb fast paced to set the mood for the entire album. It is catchy as heck. You will be rocking along in no time at all.

It is great that the band play fast-paced and intense Stoner Rock songs to get the heartbeat racing. Most of the songs only last 3 to 4 mins or so. The longest track on the album - Oven Sun – only lasts 4:43 mins. However, it is one of the albums strongest tracks. It shows that the band have a talent at writing great songs that will get the most jaded of Stoner Rock fan singing along to their music.

The instrumental work is played loud from the word go but done at a fast pace. However, the overall major factor that make this album truly standout is its huge sense of fun to be had. It is just a blast from start to finish and one that will leave a huge smile on your face. Especially with the summer months starting to show.

RoadKillSoda are not trying to re-invent the wheel, they are just bringing a whole lot of hard rocking energy back to the party. And they succeed on every level. Other great tracks to check out are: Drove Away, The Blame Is Mine, Rocket Rodeo, Born Again and my fave track – Can’t Take Control.

Oven Sun is expertly played and produced by all involved. Romania is not known for its Stoner Rock scene. But RoadKillSoda are one of its shining lights. Oven Sun is an exhilarating thrill ride from start to finish and an excellent debut album from this hugely talented Stoner Rock Band.

It might feel a bit too short but believe me this album has some of the fastest Stoner Rock riffs you will hear all year. If you miss the good old days of 90’s Grunge/Stoner Rock then this is the album for you.

Oven Sun is now available to buy from RoadKillSoda’s BandCamp Page Now. So what you waiting for. Get checking these superb fast-paced rockers now.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
