Review:

So we have a band called WOMEN releasing their debut mini-album – The Men Of Women. Sorry to disappoint all you Stoner Rock Feminists out there but these WOMEN are a bunch of dudes playing some blazing riffs to impress you with. So what do WOMEN provide? Well they provide 30 minutes of self-proclaimed “Classy Scuzz Rock Jams” to shake your body to. WOMEN are more of lo-fi punk driven Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal band adding dark vocals to the mix.

Opening track – Olympia – embraces the Stoner Rock energy of Karma To Burn but given a more twisted and violent makeover as the band plays their riffs on the Sludgier side of life. It is a hard-rocking blast that will show you that these dudes from WOMEN can play!!!

2nd track – Black Russian – sees the band adding their lo-fi punk vibes to the party with shades of Red Fang and Mastodon style riffs playing at a more faster pace. Obviously, this is a song about drinking as the lyrics are spliced with a dangerous edge that plays out like a morality tale with added bite. The dual vocals from Jon and Gareth are sung with gusto and conviction especially the angrier grizzled vocals lurking in the background.

3rd track – The Little Breath – carries on the fast-paced dangerous atmosphere with one of the albums stand-out tracks that grabs you by the scruff of your neck and throws you right into the middle of the action. Sludge, Grunge and Stoner Metal riffs combine that you show that these bunch of WOMEN cannot be messed with. The second part of the track sees WOMEN play sonic bursts of violent sludge/stoner rock riffs, which takes the album into heavier and darker territory

The last two tracks – Brown Note Sympathy and Take Me To The Gallows sees the band add Drone and Noise Rock nightmarish vibes for the last 17 mins or so. It is quite a contrast to the albums earlier songs as WOMEN stay in the darkness as the atmosphere becomes Doom and Gloom. It is a great end to finish the album on especially on the 12-minute epic last track, which is worth the purchase of the album alone.

The Men Of Women is a truly stunning album and marks the arrival of a great band from the UK Sludge/Stoner Metal scene. Let us see what their full-length debut album brings.

Brilliant and Highly Recommended.
