Gallow God - The Veneration Of Serpents - Review

Gallow God is a Doom Metal Band from London, UK.

The members are:

Dan Tibbals - Guitar, Vocal
Ricardo Veronese - Guitar
Mitch Barrett - Bass Guitar
Chris Takka - Drums

Gallow God are a traditional Doom Metal band in every sense of the word. They play, live and breathe Doom Metal. Their excellent debut album - The Veneration Of Serpents - is a throwback to the legendary Doom Metal scene of the 70s and 80s before bands started adding Stoner and Sludge Metal to the sound.

This is 67 minutes of epic traditional doom metal to chill your soul to. First track - The Circle - is 7:42 mins of finely crafted riffage blended with Old-School Doom atmospherics. This is a slow-burning creepy affair that sets the eerie tone for the entire album. Vocalist Dan is on spellbinding form. Drawing you into a false sense of security before unleashing a dark and creepy tale to scare even the most hardened of listeners.

7 of the 8 tracks here run past the 8 minute mark. So you if love dark epic Doom Metal music then your in for a treat here. The band have created a dark and brooding masterpiece of Doom Metal to make them stand out from the crowd.

Other great and brilliantly titled tracks to check out are - "Waters of Death, Thy Hands Will Not Cleanse", "At Eternity's Gate", "A Misers Land" and the brilliant title track. All showing that Gallow God are band live and thrive in the darkness and who are definitely afraid of the light.

It's been a long time since I truly appreciated a damn fine Doom Metal record. This is Doom Metal played and portrayed it's purest form and I loved every dark creepy second of it. So what it the album's highlight. Well I have to say it's the cover of a classic song they have provided here. Mainly the classic that is Scarborough Fair.

This song was traditionally an English/Yorkshire ballad song made famous by artists such as Simon and Garfunkel. But damn I have to say Gallow God's version is probably my fave version I have heard so far. Dark, creepy and very atmospheric all in one go. Gallow God make this song their own.

If you haven't witnessed the full power of this great band then I urge you to check them out now. You won't be sorry.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
