ALBUM PREMIERE: Maharaja, "Aviarium"

Formed in late 2013 in the Gem City, Maharaja are a sludge steamroller ready to lay waste to everything in their path. Their sound is undeniably heavy and visceral; theirs is a sound you can feel; it jars your bones and shakes you to your core.  Maharaja's truth lies within their bottomless heft, groove, and subject matter. While the seeds were planted with their 2014 demo and 2017 debut album, Kali Yuga, the band have completely blossomed on new album “Aviarium,” which you can stream in all it ungodly glory below.  Official release date is tomorrow, 09/12/2022 via Seeing Red Records

PREORDER Vinyl / Digital or via https://shop.seeingredrecords.com/

VIDEO PREMIERE: King Witch deliver another dose of heavy metal gold with "Return to Dust"

In just a few short years Scottish power house King Witch have proven to be a beacon of quality since emerging in 2015. The heft of the riffs, the powerhouse vocals of Laura Donnelly, has enabled King Witch to deliver an unmistakable and incomparable sound.  Even Nicole Sturgeon approves (ok I made that bit up).

King Witch returned this year with another sonic brew in the form of their second album “Body of Light” and is arguably one of the strongest albums released in 2020.

Released in May, 2020 has since become a period in our lives than none of us will forget, COVID19 has and continues to affect everyone. So in these strange times, it is more important than ever, to not only continue to have hope, but also to provide people with something positive.  So today we’re excited to premiere King Witch’s brand new video for their stunning track “Return to Dustwhich you can check out below.

“Body of Light” is digitally and on CD//LP and you can order a copy HERE

ALBUM PREMIERE: Unburnt, "Procession"

At the border of several worlds, today’s SLUDGELORD debutant’s Unburnt, play unconventional music, that has the perfect of balance of emotion and brutality. Coming across like a cross-pollination or hybrid of sounds that borrow richly from heavyweights like Neurosis, Unfold or The Ocean, their compositions feel completely organic, the lyrics are poetic metaphors inspired by an intimate experience and taken through the filter of esotericism.
You can now stream Unburnt’s new album “Procession” below.  Order being taken HERE

ALBUM PREMIERE: Holden, "Ursa Minor"

Today’s SLUDGELORD debutants Holden are uncompromising in their vision, be-holden to absolutely no-one, and with their debut album Ursa Minor”,  they take the atmospheric touch of ISIS, pollinate it with the prog freneticism of “Blood Mountain”-era Mastodon, and finally mix it in melting pot with the bludgeoning heaviness of Conan and High on Fire. The result of which is an enthralling diamond of a listen and you can get your first taste with the premiere of album in full below

ALBUM PREMIERE: RESENT summon the sickness on vomit soaked sludge debut "Crosshairs"

Formed in 2017, in Victoria BC, today’s SLUDGELORD debutant RESENT, offer us ugliness plain and simple. Their music is disdainful and vomit drenched sludge and the six tracks that make up their debut LP “Crosshairs” is certain to make you reach for the vomit bucket.
The band draws heavily on the classic '90s sludge sound made 'famous' by Grief, Noothgrush, Corrupted, et al, but somehow manages to drag it further down into the putrid filth from which it was spawned, with the entire record reaching the despairing lows of the nastiest, bleakest moments of Meth Drinker.

It is our absolute fucking pleasure to debut “Crosshairs” in full below and you can order a copy on vinyl via the following labels  Dry Cough Records (UK) https://www.drycoughrecords.com/ Nerve Altar (US) https://nervealtar.storenvy.com/ & Rope Or Guillotine (Netherlands) https://ropeorguillotine.limitedrun.com/

ALBUM PREMERE: Grim Ravine, 'It's A Long Way Down, To Where You Are'

Cited as one of the finest purveyors of extreme blackened doom to emerge from the UK and having firmly left their mark with 2015’s self-titled and 2017’s “The Light is from Below”, south coast quintet Grim Ravine, proudly reveal their latest opus “It’s A Long Way Down, To Where You Are”. Their new four track album spans a multitude of soundscapes from doom to black metal, melodic to discord, it’s ethereal and haunting. “It’s A Long Way Down, To Where You Are” is an album that could be summarised as one of positive misery, a celebration of hopelessness and the futility of our joyous descent into oblivion.

“It’s A Long Way Down, To Where You Are” is out 27th March 2020 via Hostile Media and will be available on CD and vinyl formats as well as on all major streaming and digital platforms (preorder HERE). Today at THE SLUDGELORD we’re offering our followers the first taste of the album, with an exclusive stream which you can check out below.  I also fired some questions at the band about the new album, the scene and their aspirations for the future.  Turn it up loud and watch your speakers die!!

SL: For those people unfamiliar with your band, are there any bands on the scene past and present that you would use as a reference point bands to describe your band, and who or what continues to inspire you and push you to try new things?

There are no particular bands that spring to mind to be honest. At the start we just wanted to play slow and heavy, but with every member adding their own style in we naturally developed a more "blackened" edge that was ever intended, but we have embraced this and have really been inspired by where our combined creative processes will take us next

SL: What can you tell us about your new record and where do you feel it sits within the context of current doom scene?

Probably sits on its own in the corner, but I think anyone who has an interest in the nastier side of doom/sludge or the more atmospheric ambient black metal should find something to their taste

SL: Does anything spring to mind when you think about the completion of your new record and how is the mood in the camp at present?

We have experimented a lot more on this release and bought in more of our personal influences and we are very proud of the results. There have been a few delays with the release that have been out of our hands so we are also very relieved that finally people can hear it!

SL:What stands out as your overarching memory from the recording sessions?

The location that we recorded all the instruments in. This was at Old Chapel Studios in Chichester and the building itself, as well as the larger recording space, really created a different atmosphere during the process than we have ever experienced before.

SL: With you new record in the bag, how is your schedule shaping up over the next 12 months (Nb. this questions were sent prior to the Coronavirus outbreak)?

Well due to the current situation our live schedule is currently on hold, however we have been working constantly while waiting for the album to drop and have written a lot of new songs. It is most likely that we will be back in the studio sooner rather than later. We'd ideally like to do a split for our next release

SL:Finally, do you last words?

Just to thank you, and anyone who checks out our album, for your time. The current situation means that we do not have the chance to play live at this moment and support our album release that way, but our stuff is available online if anyone wants to check it out!

ALBUM PREMIERE: "Pain Clinic" by The Disease Concept

Way back in 2012, a group  of season musicians who have featured in the ranks of Fistula, Solace & Blood Farmers formed The Disease Concept.  Described as “the best sludge metal garage band you’ve never heard”, the band issued their debut EP, “Liquor Bottles & Broken Steel’ via their own Goatskull Records imprint, following it up a year later with their debut full length “Your Destroyer” and then silence.
As time passed the likelihood of another release seemed improbable, however with talk of a long proposed final album having been recorded, fast forward 6 years and despite the band’s creators seemingly not in communication with each other and with the project long laid to rest, 2019 will finally be the year when that final album isreleased and today at THE SLUDGELORD, we’re excited not only to announce the release of “Pain Clinic” but stream the album in full, which you can check out below. Preorders are being taken at Totem Cat Records HERE

Despite knowing very little about the band and precious little info being available, with the release of their debut full length Decay and Other Hopes Against Progress” in 2017, Springfield, Massachusetts, Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean’s delivered a record so utterly fucking devastating, the band literally became one of our favourite bands at THE SLUDGELORD

Their music is plain wretched and today we bring you exclusively their next chapter of aural depravity “Tell Me What You See Vanishing and I Will Tell You Who You Are” in full below.   The record is released tomorrow and preorders are being taken here

Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, the duo known as Reflex Machine beat the living piss outta their drums and bass to create a sound that envelopes a myriad of influences and yet they create music that isn’t the usual garden variety bullshit.  Delivering Sumac like intensity, crushing psychedelic sludge and mind-melding rhythms, this band have emerged to deliver a fist in the face to mediocrity.
