The Sludgelord News: OMMADON: UK Drone/Doom Duo To Undrape Empathy For The Wicked Via Golden Mantra This July

Following the crushing doom of their critically-adored, 2014 double LP, V, which earned a spot on Rolling Stone's 20 Best Metal Albums Of 2014, UK drone/doom duo, OMMADON, continues their perpetual quest to achieve sonic annihilation of the self through unadulterated heaviness with Empathy For The Wicked. Boasting just one earth-rupturing track broken into two parts, Empathy For The Wicked was recorded live, mixed by OMMADON and mastered by recording legend, Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Zoroaster, Eyehategod, Taurus, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth etc.), who gave it the final crushing touches it deserves.

Where OMMADON's previous scores were all recorded in the Highlands of Scotland surrounded by forest, Empathy For The Wicked marks their first release to be recorded on an industrial estate in urban Northumberland surrounded by the dregs of humanity. The first track from Empathy For The Wicked was originally recorded for the cassette split with Horse Latitudes and Coltsblood. During that session, OMMADON decided to continue recording through the night and drone out the riff which became the second side to Empathy For The Wicked.

Empathy For The Wicked will be released on 12" vinyl via Golden Mantra on July 15th, 2015 with preorders available at: www.goldenmantra.co.uk. Teasers to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Critical Hails For V:

"A hypnotic, dead-eyed combination where patience, misanthropy and endurance collide; a zombie chained to a pole walking the same ugly circle." - Rolling Stone

"Split across four sides of vinyl, the double record was mastered by Billy Anderson... so you can bet your favourite Sunn O))) picture disc on this thing sounding heavier than a dying planet." -- Terrorizer

"I love this album because it's so preposterously barbaric and for such an extended period of time and it's beyond excessive. It's an absolute endurance test, and by the end of it I was not the same as I'd come into it. There aren't a lot of albums you can say that about." - The Sludgelord

"OMMADON categorically prove that it is still possible to make compelling music within the field of drone-doom, an area that I personally had considered long since mined dry." -- The Sleeping Shaman

"OMMADON's V has more in common with the harsh, acidic fuzz of Conan, and Earth's early work, but much, much more abrasive." -- Blog Of Putrefaction

"Over the last couple of years I've been lucky enough to listen to some quite excellent instrumental doom, and OMMADON's V is right up there with the very best." -- Lair Of Filth

"Listening to the two 45-minute tracks on V is like trying to imagine your own burial under the Himalayas." -- Echoes And Dust

OMMADON Personnel:

David Tobin - guitars
Ewan Mackenzie - drums, noise

“The word genexus is a hybrid of two words; genesis and nexus,” explains vocalist Burton C. Bell. “This word describes the next transition in human evolution as man moves forward to a ‘mechanical’ state of being.  Ray Kurzweil predicts that the singularity will occur around 2045. Genexus is the term for that next evolutionary process. Where humans are machines, machines are human, and the differences are oblivious to the naked eye.

“This album is a record of thought patterns, psychology and struggles of the Genexus generation. The cognitive machine has arrived, and it wants autonomy from the industry that created it. This machine struggles, like every other human has throughout the course of history. This is the story of every one of us.”

The Sludgelord News: GOATSNAKE Reveals Details Of Their Upcoming Full-Length, Black Age Blues, Due For Release On Southern Lord In June

GOATSNAKE is ready to unveil the details of their first full-length in fifteen years, entitled Black Age Blues, the album to be released via Southern Lord on June 2nd, 2015.

Black Age Blues is an instant classic, with each one of the nine songs an anthem, and each of the four members of GOATSNAKE in top form. Everything is magnified; Pete Stahl's vocals have never sounded so good, the rhythm section comprised of Greg Rogers on drums and Scott Renner on bass are the driving force on each track, and Greg Anderson's riffs are heavier than ever before.

Appearing on the album intro to "Another River To Cross" is acoustic guitar courtesy of David Pajo (Slint, Aerial M, Papa M), the track also containing previously released recordings from GOATSNAKE's "The River." Piano is played by Mathias Schneeberger and Petra Haden contributes violin and vocals. Another welcome addition to the album, across multiple tracks, are brilliant backing vocals by Dem Preacher's Daughters: Wendy Moten, Gale Mayes and Andrea Merrit.

Black Age Blues is familiar, but nothing here is a repetition of what we've heard before, as GOATSNAKE continues to refine the timeless, ultra-heavy rock that they are infamous for, surpassing even the highest of expectations.

The track listing and front cover, with photography and design from Samantha Muljat have been released. Audio samples and much more will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The Sludgelord News: Sludge Metallers HOGSLAYER announce second album and UK tour

Sludge metal outfit HOGSLAYER are set to release their second album ‘Defacer’ via cult label Undergroove Records on May 4th 2015.

The follow up to 2013's self titled release, Defacer showcases 8 tracks of evocative misery, infused with throat-stripping vocals that churn over sludgey, low slung grooves and hulking riffs. HOGSLAYER’S second album promises big and delivers bigger.

Formed in 2012, the year the world ended, HOGSLAYER rose from the ashes of Shaped By Fate and Zonderhoof, dragging with them their dank, squalid musical output.

For a taster of the band's sound, watch the video for the track Despiser here.

Says HOGSLAYER bassist Grym av Skugga, "Defacer is the result of us heading in a heavier and darker direction. We've made the decision to incorporate two bassists rather than two guitarists and taken a stripped down approach to the writing process, leaving a bleak and abysmal dissonance in its place. It’s our take on doom-ridden sludge and we’re looking forward to people hearing it.”

Having previously slaughtered the stage at Bloodstock Festival, the band are now set to tour the UK throughout March and April with more dates and festival appearances being added throughout the summer. Confirmed dates are as follows:

Mar 25            Kraak, Manchester, UK
Mar 26            Downstairs, Aberdeen, UK
Mar 27            Cerberus Bar, Dundee, UK
Mar 28            Gorilla Studios, Hull, UK
Mar 29            The Moon, Cardiff, UK

The Sludgelord News: KLONE SIGN TO PELAGIC RECORDS / ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM 'HERE COMES THE SUN’

Released 27th April through Pelagic Records.

12 years after their debut release, KLONE, hailing from France, are back with their 6th studio album: “Here Comes The Sun”.

“Here Comes The Sun”, reveals a mature rock band whose musical universe has expanded and developed over the years. When taking a look at the band’s discography, their progress appears like a logical evolution: each album unique, and each served to make the follow-up less predictable.

The band's metal roots have slowly but confidently given way to an ethereal rock sound, vintage but modern, delivered by heavy riffs, delay-soaked guitar-reverb and soft vocal melodies. Nowadays while melancholy is the defining paradigm of the band's sound, KLONE go on to exploit a much broader emotional spectrum.

2012's The Dreamer’s Hideaway already showed more progressive outlines. This time, the band gives each melody time to unfold... and this is where the strength of this album lies: coherence, patience, and continuity. The transitions between riffs and songs never feel rushed or forced -- everything is happening at the right time, and for a reason. The music, the lyrics and the artwork reflect upon one another, and suck the listener into a universe revolving around the sun, which is the central theme of the album.

KLONE have opened for bands like Gojira, King’s X and Orphaned Land, and have played the main stage at Hellfest. With "Here Comes The Sun", the band's song writing, led by the charismatic voice of Yann Ligner, has reached the next level. All of this combined "Here Comes The Sun" is the album that will see KLONE thrust into the limelight.

Stream 2 tracks from the album in full:

Press:
“Monster riffs crush down throughout like hulking slabs of concrete and a thunderous rhythm section with lightning forks of melody melds well with the angry yet highly accessible vocals from Yann Ligner.” – Terrorizer

“The intelligent construction of those ambient walls of noise and the way the band makes playing progressively arranged songs sound positively loose and carefree.” Metal Hammer

We've always been the type of musicians that take the next step to further our skill but collectively and as an entity we strive to convey the jaded sense of growing older into our music. Like Revelation, there is a melodic and lyrical progression that all leads up to cathartic resolution. It takes you on a journey of emotional high points ranging from the good, bad and unforgivable."
