In nine songs Hound takes punk rock as its starting point and continues down a path paved with upbeat, distorted guitars and with a crunchy bounce of "Cold Blooded," or the rockin lick in "Mortality Jam'" Hound is certainly a band you, too, can get hooked on.

The Review:
As far as openers are concerned, Hound has it nailed. Their 2014 debut, “Out of Time” kicked off with the infectious “Affordable Hypnotist” and their new album, which is out almost a year to the day later, hits it out of the park once again. “Emotional Collapse" starts "Out of Space" with a Descendents-like riff that will turn any party into a blowout. Singer Perry makes his entrance pretty quickly, speaking to my punk ethos when he sings “the mould that you created can’t hold me anymore." Though perhaps not the most creative way of saying ‘fuck you’ Hound backs this up by turning out a piano solo that eventually dissolves into an experimental saxophone freak out. I can’t help but get hooked.
The 27 minute run time may hint at an EP but don't be fooled because "Out of Space" certainly goes places. In nine songs Hound takes punk rock as its starting point and continues down a path paved with upbeat, distorted guitars with brief breaks slowing things down, like lead off single "Over the Edge." It’s still all punk rock, even with the slow cuts, and that's felt in the attitude of how Hound operates. They're here to get in, rally everyone together, and get out. So when Perry sings that he's feeling reckless, out of his mind, and that he's wide awake at 4am, while loose, loud, carefree guitars play behind him, he's not looking to provoke but instead lead the way. And with a crunchy bounce of "Cold Blooded," or the rockin lick in "Mortality Jam'" Hound is certainly a band you, too, can get hooked on.
If you're into things like Motorhead, Rocket From the Crypt, or the aforementioned Descendents, then throw these boys from Philly onto your playlist. After all, what’s 27 minutes of your day?
