Review:

Lotus Ash members are from some very heavy bands that you maybe aware of. So you don't have to question the pedigree of this great band as their debut album is the real deal to give you all the answers you need. The Word Of God is 30 mins of pure distorted noise that ventures the realms of Sludge, Stoner, Drone, Doom Metal and even Desert Rock for one heavy intense album that is going to cause a stir in the Sludge/Stoner Metal world.

'The Word Of God is a progressive and highly inventive album. Sure, the riffs can be compared to Mastodon, Red Fang, Baroness and Sleep but look further amongst the music as you will be drowned in Eastern influences and vibes. The instrumental work is pure chaos through out as Lotus Ash have written highly impressive riffs to match the thought provoking lyrics that each of the 5 songs contains. The Word Of God is more about the journey than the actual experience as the band take you on a spiritual quest to find out what really is The Word Of God. There is no correct answer as everyone's journey will be different.

The first two tracks - Redemption and Soul Of Man - prove Lotus Ash write intelligent and thought provoking songs packed with heavy riffs that feel fresh, exciting and most importantly original. Lotus Ash create a bleak and desolate atmosphere with each song that make you feel uncomfortable at times. Though if you want to rock out then you can do that as well. Lotus Ash leave no expense spared in the riffs dept. The albums standout track has to be the title track - The Word Of God. A song that sees Lotus Ash lay down some brilliant dual vocals that remain harsh and violent as the distorted noises the band perform for the next 7 minutes. This is where the drone-based aspect of the album corrupts the serene desert rock vibe and turns it into a more dangerous sound to crush your hopes and dreams.

If you want something different to listen to and challenge you at the same time then Lotus Ash is the band for you. The Word Of God is a stunning debut album that has came out of nowhere and impressed me greatly. To the point that this album will be in my top 10 records of 2014. That is how good this album is. It may only run for 30 mins or so but it feels twice as long. It is one of those albums where you discover something new every time you listen to it. The Word Of God is an absolute work of genius. It is a thought-provoking ride that you will be listening to for a long time to come.
