Bio
This June marks the
return of instrumental post-rock duo Khuda and with it the arrival of
their biggest and most fully realised album Molasses Constricts The
Clinostat.
The Leeds/Jyväskylä
based duo have been carving out an unholy body of work since their
formation in 2007; drawing on the brooding, angular influence of
bands like Hella and Russian Circles and setting their sound against
an imposing progressive metal backdrop. A body of music populated
with astonishing, bold compositions driven by the ambition and
percussive/rhythmic attack of guitarist Tom Brooke and drummer Steve
Myles.

Review:
Experimental
Progressive Post-Rock/Metal duo – KHUDA – return from hibernation
to unleash their blend of progressive instrumental music on an
unsuspecting audience once more.
Molasses
Constricts The Clinostat is the most complete album that KHUDA have
released so for. It's an expansive sonic assault on the senses that
will leave you questioning your very own existence. How can a duo be
this loud and play epic riffs like this. It shouldn't be possible.
Then again I am not surprised as KHUDA have been defying genre
expectations for the whole of their musical career and this album is
no different.
From
the opening notes of Balduinius 1481, Khuda will take you on a sonic
journey that defies time and space. Is it Post Rock, Post Metal or
Progressive Metal that the band are playing. Well it's a combination
of all 3 as Khuda deal in progressive riffs that harks back to the
earlier days of Pelican and Russian Circles but on a more wider
scale.
2nd
track – Phi Am – takes the listener on another heavy pounding
assault on the senses as the guitars and drums play a duelling blend
of warfare before Khuda unleash loud as hell riffage that have enough
power to shatter every bone in your body. It has a melodic edge to it
which is unsettling, haunting and quite beautifully majestic all at
the same time.
Even
without the vocals this album has a thrilling and intriguing story to
tell as tracks such as Raekoja Plats, Beside Form, Beside Shape and
Madzag (I Blunder) – see Khuda weave intense layers of noises with
a determined approach I haven't heard from an instrumental band in a
very long time. If you're a fan of progressive rock/metal then you
will be in musical heaven here as Khuda unleash a finely tuned blend
of intelligent riffs that will have musical scholars studying their
music for an eternity.
It's
the final track off the album that makes this release so special.
Onward Planarian – is an expertly written tale told through the
power of music. It's a gut-wrenching and emotionally packed tale that
will bring a tear to your eye. K Onward Planarian is a progressive
juggernaut waiting to destroy everything in the cosmos.
Khuda
have delivered a master-class of instrumental rock music with this
album. Be prepared to be blown away. Khuda have delivered their most
defining work to date.
