1000mods is a psychedelic/stoner rock band from Chiliomodi, Greece. They were formed in the summer of 2006 and since then, they have played over 100 live shows, including openings for Brant Bjork, Colour Haze, Karma to Burn, My Sleeping Karma, Radio Moscow and many others. Their commitment to vintage equipment, thick and heavy analog sound and their remarkably passionate on stage performance is what sets them apart.

In the beginning of 2007 they released their first (self-financed) EP “Blank Reality” on CD, and in December 2009 they stroke back with a brand new 7’’ EP titled “Liquid Sleep”, available on coloured (light green) Vinyl by SuiSound (CTS prods). They also released a limited edition split tape with the German psy-doomsters Wight.

In October 2010, the almighty Billy Anderson, the man behind legendary albums (Sleep, Melvins, Neurosis, Om, Los Natas, Orange Goblin etc…), visited Greece in order to produce the band’s debut album “Super Van Vacation”. Malleus Art Rock Lab took care of the artwork. In September 2011, the German label Kozmik Artifactz released the album on Double Vinyl and the Greek label CTS prods on Digipack CD.

1000mods toured Europe during October 2011, in order to promote their new album. They played 25 gigs in 12 countries. Some of the tour's highlights were appearing as special guests in Up In Smoke 3 and supporting White Hills

1000Mods are back with their new album – Vultures. A hard rocking 38-minute affair that packs quite a punch. Stoner Rock and Fuzz Rock combine for one hard-rocking adventure that will speak volumes to the Stoner Rock crowd. Vultures is a lot different to their 2011 album – Super Van Vacation. Yeah there is lots of fuzz to worship to but Vultures sees the band moving into dangerous territory as Vultures has a darker feel compared to the previous album’s sunnier and easy-going vibe.

It shows the band aren’t afraid to experiment with their sound and it provides the listener with a thrilling experience that you don’t quite expect from these highly talented rockers.

First track – Claw – is a track that pushes all the right buttons in getting you into the mood of rocking out. It has a slight garage noisy rock feel to it but you can still expect to hear lots of fuzz based stoner rock riffs that Truckfighters have slightly left behind with their music recently.

1000Mods unleash the fury on the next track – Big Beautiful – that sees the band adding more noises to the Stoner Rock cause but with plenty off menacing riffs to prove that 1000Mods are a band with their own vision to stand out from the crowd. A fast-paced affair feels like the song is twice as long as its 4-minute running time and that is a very good thing indeed. It shows that 1000Mods have genuinely changed their music for the better.

3rd track – She – starts with a bluesy rock vibe with lead vocalist – Dani – singing his heart out and sharing his pain to the world. However, it does have its fair share of crunching riffs to rock out to. It is the album’s longest track and they have plenty of time to pack as many different moods as possible. When things get heavy then things do seriously get heavy with the FUZZ amped upto 11.

This sets up the scene for the rest of the album as Vultures turns into an adrenaline packed journey of riffs and fuzz that will leave you on the edge of your seat. If you are not moved by the blistering moods of Horses Green, Low, Reverb of the New World and the sublime title track – Vultures – then there seriously is no hope for you. As 1000Mods prove, they are masters of their own destiny.

The album conjures up startling visions that take you to the hot desert sun of the legendary Desert Rock scene. All you stoner rock/fuzz maniacs may have a new favourite band to follow as Vultures is more like a mission statement for you to join this rebel band of riffsters. Vultures is one of the must have Stoner Rock releases of the summer.

If you were impressed by Super Van Vacation then be prepared to be blown away as you ain’t heard nothing yet. Vultures is an awesome ride from start to finish. End Of.

Thanks to the band for sending me a promo to review. Vultures will be available to buy on DD/Vinyl from May 30th 2014. Though the super duper limited edition vinyl of 30 has already sold out.
