EAGLE TWIN - The Feather Tipped The Serpents Scale Review

<br />Eagle Twin - The Feather Tipped the Serpent

Eagle Twin are a Sludge/Drone/Doom Metal Band from USA

The members are:

Tyler Smith - Drums
Gentry Densley - Vocals, Guitars

I think you all know who Eagle Twin are. They are one of the finest Sludge Metal Bands have to offer at the moment blending Doom and Drone to highly startling effect into their blend of Sludge Metal.

They released their debut album – The Unkindness Of Crows – to critical acclaims with fans and critics alike in 2009. It was one of my personal fave records of 2009 and one I still listen to today. So I am a huge fan of this band.

Well 3 years later Eagle Twin are back with their heaviest and most accomplished album to date. The Feather Tipped The Serpents Scale is a colossal masterpiece of heavy and hard hitting Sludge Metal riffs.

There is no denying the power and ferocity of this amazing album. It features 7 songs and runs for an impressive 52 minutes or so.

The album starts off with the sublime two part track – Ballad Of Job Cain Part 1. A 10 minute epic that sets the scene in what to expect over the next 54 mins or so.

This is an 10 minute blast of chaotic Sludge Metal mixing Doom and Drone Rock to astonishing effect. The lyrics will blow your mind apart. And the riffs. I haven’t mentioned the instrumental work on this superb track. For a two man band Eagle Twin excel themselves here. An amazing track that will literally take your breath away.

Ballad of Job Cain Part 2 continues where the wonderful Part 1 left off. Another 9 minute thrill ride that has more top-notch riffage for Eagle Twin to impress the listener with.

No word of a lie. These two sings can rival SLEEP’s classic album – DOPESMOKER. As this two-part masterpiece has the same type atmosphere and vibe of that classic album. Both taking their time in creating a tense atmosphere before all hell breaks loose. You will know what I mean when you hear it.

If you think this album cannot get any better it does with the next excellent track – Adan (Lorca). Another 9 minute epic for Eagle Twin to impress you with. And impress they do. Full of more heavy monolithic riffs and amazing drumming that take this band and album onto another level from anything else you have heard this year.

This song starts off very slowly before ending in a loud noise of crushing sludge greatness. The song carries a bleak story to go with it so listen to the lyrics very carefully to get the full desired effect.

The next song is probably my fave song on this brilliant album. Snake Hymn is an 11:29 minute odyssey of what Eagle Twin is all about. Amazing Distorted Sludge Metal mixing in superb Doom and Stoner Metal to great effect. This is another song to take the listener onto another wonderful journey. It’s loud from the word go and you will need your wits about you to go through the entire song in one full listen.

This song would go down brilliantly on the live stage. Heck the whole album would. This is the last epic song on this brilliant album. Only 3 songs remain and you only have 12 minutes left before Eagle Twin will let you go to reclaim your sanity and existence.

The tracks might not be as long as their longer counterparts but they are still sublime tracks to check out. Especially the last song – Epilogue – Crow’s Theory which draws this brilliant album to a close.

Well as you can tell I loved this album from start to finish. It’s brilliantly produced so you can hear the mighty power and destruction of Eagle Twin to hard hitting perfection.

Eagle Twin have released their best album to date and one that will gain them many fans and praise over the coming years. Another record for one of the best records of 2012.

Highly Recommended. The Feather Tipped The Serpents Scale will be available to buy from all good stockists on Southern Lord Records from August 28th 2012.
