Tunguska Mammoth is a band who I have been a fan of ever since I reviewed their debut EP - First Chapters - about 2 years ago. It made a lasting impression on myself and I have been waiting for these heavy Sludge/Stoner Metallers to release their debut album since then.
Now that time is upon us and what an album it is…
Their S/T debut album is a concept album based on a excellent simple premise. All of the worlds Mammoths have came back to life to wreak havoc on humanity. The album is a first hand account of the unwanted destruction that takes place. Simple. Yeah. But it is a great excuse for lots of heavy pummelling brutal Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs to rock out to.
Tunguska Mammoth debut album is on for an action packed frantic 45 mins or so. They harness the progressive sludge riffs of Mastodon and Baroness and match it up with the quick fire Stoner Metal delivery of High On Fire. So you are going to be in for one heck of a wild ride. Vocals are sung at a breakneck speed. So you had better buckle up as Tunguska Mammoth is going to take you on one of the wildest Sludge/Stoner Metal rides of the year.
The album gets straight down to business with excellent opening track – Degenesis – that sets up the scene for this hard-hitting album. The band also adds a fast-paced hardcore/thrash metal edge to their music. So you know right away it is going to be loud and heavy from the start. What else would you expect from an album about mammoths destroying mankind?
Tunguska Mammoth is one of the most relentless bands I have had the pleasure to hear this year. They have written a heavy arsenal of great tracks to bring down those dangerous mammoths. Humanity’s main saviour is the blazing riffs that the band has at their disposal. Check out tracks such as: Dark Age, Mother Earth, In Due Time. March Of The Titan and my fave track – Of Beasts And Men. All proving that Tunguska Mammoth is a band you cannot ignore.
The lyrics might not be the most original but they are truly a force to be reckoned with especially when combined with the powerful riffs the band has created. It is the perfect marriage of pure unwanted mayhem and destruction. And Tunguska Mammoth excels in the brutal fast-paced Sludge/Stoner Metal carnage their music brings.
This album captures the tone of the entire world at war with nature brilliantly well. As the band have included many cinematic style moments that crank up the tension to maximum level. Maybe Hollywood can use a track off this album for the forthcoming Godzilla remake due in 2014 as this album has the vibe of a brilliant monster movie just waiting to be made.
Anyway back to the album. Tunguska Mammoth prove they can play heavy pounding riffs with the best of them. Their music has already won them a loyal fanbase and I expect this to grow considerably once this excellent and thrilling album is released to the public.
Tunguska Mammoth debut album is a brilliant ride full of epic thrills and riffs, which will get your heart pumping. It is brilliantly produced through out. If you want to get the full effect of this heavy pounding album, you will need to play this as loud as you can.
I hope one day the band can release this album on Vinyl as it is the perfect album for a vinyl release. Loud, powerful and epic in scope .The perfect ingredients for an amazing vinyl experience.
Anyway my final thoughts this is another excellent album to check out when it is finally released in October 2013. Tunguska Mammoth should be very proud of this album.
