ADRIFT Lp cover art

Rise After Defeat is a Hardcore/Crust/Sludge Metal Band from Cagliari, Italy

The members are:

Carlo Articolo (vocals)
Daniele Manca (guitar)
Simo Lo Nardo (bass)
Roberto Crudu (drums)

Rise To Defeat have finally released their excellent debut album - Adrift - after releasing two excellent EP's in 2011 and 2012. Rise To Defeat's sound is a mainly routed in Hardcore but with heavy dangerous slabs of Crust and Sludge to give the band a hard-hitting sound of their own.

Their debut album - Adrift - features 10 tracks clocking in at 35 minutes. Adrift offers listeners a brutal assault on the senses. As the band play fast and furious hardcore riffs with a purpose. Mainly to destroy everything in it's path. First track - Deception - is a 4 minute angry blast of non-stop riffs showing what this band is all about. Vocalist Carlo shouts his heart and soul out here with the rest of the band providing superb support in maintaning the frantic energy the album has in spades.

If you ever wanted to hear what Converge would sound like given a Sludge Metal makeover well this is your chance to find out. As Rise After Defeat play the some brutal energy that legendary band is known for. This album is one mean pissed off album. There are no happy euphoric moments in sight as the band stay angry through out.

They leave a trail of destruction through out the album with the superb songs the album has on offer. Tracks such as Lone Wolf, Acrimony, Kingdom and The Worst prove Rise After Defeat have a true talent at writing pitch-perfect angry based tracks that will have you unleashing any pent up aggression with the out of control fury that the vocals and riffs contain.

Rise After Defeat have crafted an album that perfectly balances the chaotic Hardcore/Crust carnage amongst the louder and angrier Sludge Metal vibes. It gives the album a dangerous edge and it's an edge that the band are more than happy to carry out.

The album's standout track has to be the 12 minute epic - Awareness. A bruising track full of many emotions which sees the band at their most creative. It's mainly instrumental but the band have added a disturbing drone based vibe which will send chills down your spine. It's a track that has a few ambient sounds mixed with the Crust/Hardcore/Sludge carnage played at a distorted level.

Adrift is an excellent debut album from Rise After Defeat. It shows what the band is all about and I expect we will be hearing a lot from this great band in the next few years.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
